After burning a CDr, the disk must be organized to allow it to be read by CD-rom drives (note: CDrw's cannot be organized in this manner and are therefore useless in a CD-rom drive). I don't know of any CD writing software that does not ask you if you want this to be done before ejecting the newly burnt CD.

Gotta love the run-on sentences........
When you burn the cd, you have to make sure that it is finalized. Meaning, the burner closes the cd so nothing can be written on it anymore. I think that could be the only way for an old cd-rom drive to be able to read it. If in fact, you are burning to a cdrw disc, you can forget about it. It will never work.

Can I help you? E-mail me.

I burned cd's with the CDr discs. It works in my cd rom drive. It works in my car cd player and it works in my office cd player am/fm radio. However they don't work in my home cd player and my wife's cd box. The home cd player is less than 2 years old and the boom box is less than 5. Anyone know what is wrong?

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

But that's one more pixel of Jamie Pressley to gaze upon - why complain? ;)

As for TW's problem : the only thing that I can suggest is to try using those "special (read - more expensive) SILVER CD-R's that are "made" for music. it could be that the players you are having a problem with are not able to recognize the blue CD-R color, and therefore they won't play. My old CD Walkman had this problem, only it had it half-way through the CD. I used a silver disc and it played fine, but it pissed me off so I ended up getting a new CD Walkman (the old one skipped anyway). So far every blue disc I've thrown at it works fine.

I had exactly that problem with my 1995 4x CD Rom drive. It just wouldn't read the cheapo blue CDR's. Still doesn't. It read the spendier TDKs though. "certified" or something like that.

So what brand name is recommended in buying cd's that will play on all of my cd players. If I have a party now, I can't even play my cd's with my portable cd player and my regualr cd player not reading them.

spendier - more spendy - costing more money than the afformentioned alternative.

That's what I meant anyhow, whether it's a real word or not...
