| O&A Board Veteran Registered: Jul. 00 | How many computers are you planning to connect? This has been discussed here before (I'll go find the thread for ya and add a link... I know how you hate research. :-P Here it is. )and I have suggested a cheaper alternative to the lil' blue router setup that everyone and their brother (ha ha... how appropriate, what with you hooking up your brother and all :-D ) has been using and proclaiming as the ONLY way to share a cable modem. Anyway, for less than $100 at least three companies offer a phone line setup to connect at least 2 stations over existing wiring. Substantial savings in install time and equipment cost. Only down side I can see is potential speed difference (but, for a home network do you really NEED 100mb? Especially if he's got you setting it up...) and the strictly peer to peer situation which will require the use of... dare I say it? ICS. I'm not very well-versed in the ways of splitting a RR line via a router, but everyone with whom I have spoken to on the subject does swear by it (and yes, Barch, they recommend the blue Lynksys one).
