Sellout crowd to witness Arena Football League's championship game on Sunday
August 15, 2001

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (August 15, 2001) - The Grand Rapids Rampage and Nashville Kats will battle for the ArenaBowl XV crown in front of a standing room only crowd of 11,200 on Sunday, August 19 (3:00 PM ET/NOON PT) at Van Andel Arena. A national television audience on ABC and a standing room only crowd at Van Andel Arena (10,618) will witness the Arena Football League's 15th anniversary championship game.

The No. 1 seeded Rampage (13-3) made AFL history on Monday night, selling out ArenaBowl XV just one-day after defeating the Indiana Firebirds, 83-70, to earn the right to host the championship game. Nashville (12-4), who knocked off San Jose 71-47 last week, is the No. 2 seed and will be making their second-straight appearance in the ArenaBowl. The Kats fell 41-38 on the road to the Orlando Predators in ArenaBowl XIV last season.

Sunday's overflow crowd will mark the first standing room only crowd in an AFL championship game since Arizona packed 17,436 into America West Arena (16,923) in 1997 to witness the Rattlers defeat the Kurt Warner-led Iowa Barnstormers, 55-33, in ArenaBowl XI.

ArenaBowl XV will be televised live on ABC with Brent Musburger and Gary Danielson calling the game and recently inducted Pro Football Hall of Fame member Lynn Swann providing sideline commentary. The game can also be heard live from coast to coast on national Sporting News Radio with Larry Kahn, Mike Lamb and Troy West on the call.

I'm kinda pissed because this season new franchises came to NY, Chicago, Detroit, and Indiana, and what happens? Our championship game has a team from Grand Rapids. The Rampage did deserve to make it though, they were tremendous this season. Watch out for Clint Dolezel to get signed by an NFL team.
