O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00	I turned on the Sports Guys this morning and they were ripping Mike Richter for being unpatriotic for his idiotic statements. They were sayign he should be traded and not allowed on the U.S. Olympic hockey team after his comments. Anyone know what they were?

O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00	The man is entitled to his opinion isnt he? I mean this is AMERCIA isnt it? WHo cares what the fuck Mike Richter think about all this? He has no say in what the US does, so what are you all getting so upset about. He doesnt think that we should bomb Afghanistan and fight this, I personally disagree with him, but he is entitled to his opinion. Its not like he said "I support Bin Laden, and I think he is a hero". Yeah Flock, and Im sure if Scott Stevens said the same exact thing, somehow you wouldnt be so against it, Maybe not so much you, but Im sure Spiderbob would agree with any word that comes out of his mouth.

As for your comment on Scott Stevens, I'll just say that if he or any other Devil player did say what Mike Richter did, I would be equally as pissed. O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01	curiously enough, only Toronto Star and Sports guys seem to be making issue over this; although it was reported in Newsday it was buried, and I've heard plenty of Ranger talk on WFAN or ESPN radio since, with no mention of Richter. I can't figure out the guy - not only was he one of those who desperately wante to play for Team USA in Olympics, he just visited the site, and had a friend lost in the tragedy... Richter Plays It Safe Takes comeback, criticism in stride By JOHN DELLAPINA Daily News Sports Writer angers fans probably will understand if Mike Richter's timing is off when he returns to the net tomorrow night at the Garden. And Richter knows he likely won't be given any slack for some ill-timed comments. Regarding President Bush's reference to the old West's "Wanted â€” Dead or Alive" posters when asked about Osama bin Laden, Richter said: "I think that was entirely inappropriate. I think it was sickening actually. This is no cowboy movie." Mike Richter, who shrugs off slapshots for a living, has had a hard time in recent days deflecting controversy over his recent pacifistic comments. Richter was expressing the fear felt by some that the emotional rhetoric since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center had escalated to dangerous levels. Proud to call himself a New Yorker and to have worn Team USA's sweater at many an international tournament, he has a close friend among the missing. Still, he urged that the U.S. consider what he viewed as a response based upon reason over rage â€” especially concerning the potential bombing of civilian populations and race-based assaults on American Muslims. Those views did not sit well with a couple of sports talk show hosts in Toronto and Philadelphia, though the reaction from callers and hosts on WFAN was more mixed. Following practice yesterday, Richter did not hide behind the traditional claim of having been misquoted. Instead, he welcomed the chance to further explain his comments. "I certainly don't mean to make anybody upset at all. All I was trying to say was that I think you have to be careful in these situations because they're extremely emotionally packed. "The bottom line is, if it was construed at all that I don't have respect for the situation or the country, that couldn't be further from the truth. And for that I'm very sorry. But at the same time, it's the exact opposite. "I just wish caution and hope this thing works out the best way it possibly can."

He's just saying that we don't need to be killing senselessly in wake of senseless killings by Bin Laden. I just hope he has a great season and shuts the fuck up about the situation. E.C.W.! E.C.W.!
