Tyson defends Islam in the wake of terror attacks on America
Associated Press

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson said he has ``no words to describe'' last month's terrorist attacks in the United States, but they should not reflect badly on Islam even if the suspects were Muslim extremists.

Tyson, who is Muslim, spoke Thursday about the airborne attacks in New York and Washington after a training session for his Oct. 13 bout against Danish boxer Brian Nielsen, his first fight in nearly a year.

``Religion can't be defined from one single person's action. We're all individual people, and (Timothy) McVeigh was a Christian,'' he said, referring to the American executed for the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building that killed 168 people.

The Sept. 11 attacks prompted a wave of backlash incident against Muslims after U.S. investigators blamed Muslim extremists backed by exiled Saudi millionaire Osama bin Laden.

Tyson, sweating with a towel around his neck as he spoke to reporters, said he ``has no words to describe'' the television footage of the second plane flying into the World Trade Center, which was leveled.

``It was just awesome, it was just overwhelming to see that airplane go to that building like that,'' Tyson said.

``I didn't to expect to see that,'' he said. ``It's too unbelievable.''

Tyson (49-3) arrived early Monday in the Danish capital. He last fought on Oct. 20 against Andrew Golota at Auburn Hills, Michigan, in a bout in which Golota quit in the second round. The fight against Nielsen (62-1, 43 knockouts) is regarded as a major step toward another shot at the heavyweight title for Tyson.

The tyson fight is this saturday just a reminder, I watched the weigh in today and tyson looks astounding his weight has climbed to the highest of his career. Tyson who averages in at about 223 pounds weighed in at an amazing 240 pounds, remember he is only 5' 9" tall. Lennox Lewis who is 6' 5" weighs at the 250 pound area but he has almost 8 inches on tyson. Plus tyson gained the weight as massive muscle in his upper body. So imagine this possibility, Tyson can possibly be stronger than ever right now. Plus watching his training sessions tyson looked extremely fast and furious, and amazingly even cracked a smile. But only time will tell and saturday will be the proving ground. Tysons opponent opponent weighed in at 260 pounds.
