which station do you listen to in order to get your sports talk and news. ill admit i was a big FAN fan for a long time. the sweater and the schmoozer in the morning was just a fun talk show. they would talk about sports, sopranos and they seemed to genuinely like each other and they had a good thing going. the station wasnt bad back then. they talked too much about the jets and the yankees, but what can you expect. now they seem to be going downhill. for a sports reporter, susan waldman is a pretty good singer. she brings nothing and i mean nothing, to the table but her "insider" view on the yankees. and that insider view is something that the regular fan like me and you could figure out for themselves. mike and the mad dog????? they have gotten too big for their britches. mike acts like he knows everything in sports and now hes bracnhing out to politics as well?????? he is too smug for his own good and russo is a lap dop who agrees with almost everything "mikey" says, unless its about the yankees, then he spouts his S.F. Giants rhetoric. all in all the station has gone downhill in recent times.

sporting news radio is a better alternative to fan. they have knowledgable guys who dont focus on 1 or 2 teams, but sports as a whole. im still pissed that peter brown, the one guy who actually knows what he is talking about in the NFL, was relagated to weekends from his slot, but ill get over it. they just do a good job period.

my favorite though is ESPN radio. they do a great job of getting the guests that you want to hear. during Bond's strive for 70, he was interviewed a number of times and thats a good thing. dan patrick's show in the afternoon is a fun time as well. he gets great guests and acts like he wants to be doing what he is doing. all in all, with all the coverage on every sport i want to hear about, ESPN is my choice for best sports station in New York. what does everyone else think???

It depends on what your taste is. If you want National Coverage than ESPN and Sporting News is your answer. If you want local coverage than you go the FAN.

As far as the shows are concerned. I like Jody Mac, I hate Suzyn Waldman, so that evens out. They never should have given her this gig considering she still travels with the Yankees. I would like to see them some day put Joe Benigno with Jody Mac, and give Sid the Overnight gig.

Mike and the Mad Dog are only worth listening to from 1-3.

Steve Sommers isnt bad at night.

And Joe Benigno is the best on the overnights, and Sid has done a great job since coming over to the FAN.

I don't listen to sports talk. The only time I turn on any of them is to listen to a Mets game, and that means Bob Murphy on the Fan.

yea like what fb said it depends what time you're listening and what you're listening for. i dont care about college football and sometimes on 620 that'll be all they talk about, so i'm not going to listen then. joe beningo is great on the overnights and i have enjoyed listening to sid when he's on. is it safe to say most people can't stand suzyn waldman?

personally i listen to the FAN if i have a chance to listen to sports talk. Im not a huge ESPN radio fan because it is too national, and is more broad based. I used to listen all the time when Steve Summers was on in the morning. He is hilarious. I hate Waldman, Jody Mac is ok, but not as good as Summers. Mike and the Mad Dog are the main source of talk. I like listening to their show because they do get good guests on there, and they do talk about different things. However, the best one there is Sid Rosemburg. He's getting more and more involved with the station now. Plus, he likes every team that i like, so that cant hurt.

#1 problem with WSNR & ESPN radio is signal. WSNR broadcasts out of Newark, and you lose signal easily on LI. ESPN broadcasts on 1050; all you need to know is WFAN changed from 1050 to 660 as soon as they could.

WFAN is always what I check first. I agree with most said that I like Jody Mac, Beningo (although I usually don't stay up for overnights), and Shmoozie (Sommers). I can tolerate Waldman, but she is C- at best. I used to listen to Mike & Dog before O&A came here, and after I'd listen 1-3; they've gotten old fast. Mikey definitely comes of as Mr. Know-it-all, and when he started talking politics, Charlie Ward's comments, or music for example he just comes off like an idiot/loud mouth. Dog doesn't know much, but sometimes his taunts are amusing; he just beats it to death.

I used to listen to WSNR on morning drive; they changed hosts about 6 mos ago. Its OK ; ESPN radio morning Mike (Greenberg) & Mike (Golic) has potential, but with both stations any time they talk college football or CART, I could care less.

ESPN radio is trying to do some local also; they carry NY Jets games & Pregame, and I think NY Islanders games also.

WFAN SUCKS. The only time I've listened in the past 2 years was for Farrell's show. (Is that still on Fridays?)

ESPN Radio is OK, but they never take calls and I can't stomach some of their hosts. Dan Patrick is one of the fakest people in the entertainment industry. I only like the Schapps (I'm Jeremy Schapp, ESPN) and Mike & Mike. ESPN Radio also does Islanders games, so that doesn't hurt. I listened to ESPN when it first came in September, but I haven't listened since the shit hit the fan except for an Islanders game.

Sporting News Radio is probably the best. With the exception of Bob Kemp, they have the kindest hosts and they know what the fuck they are talking about. Their hosts talk national sports, which is good if you want to hear about something besides Mike Piazza's testicle. I also love how they rip on Jerome from Manhattan, but you can hear that on WFAN too.

I don't listen enough to try all three, so I stick with the FAN. Really, the only time is noon-3 or if I'm in the car after 11.
I never really liked Somers, and now without Russ, I think he's unbearable. I wish he'd retire so they could give Sid his shifts. Sid has been great. I heard him one Saturday night with Ferrell and it was great. I used to listen to Ferrell back in Philly on WYSP in the early nineties.

Somers is extremely sarcastic, and if he roots against your team, I can see how he'd piss you off. His "icelanders" bits must make people crazy, which is why he does it.

I really like sid, more on FAN regular shifts than WNEW, since I think he be more of himself.

I think I heard that Ferrell is coming to ESPN radio friday nights.
I found him intersting; sometimes I liked him, something I thought he was an idiot, but always interesting.
