NFL BREAKDOWN WEEK 10- NOVEMBER 18, 2001

New York Jets (6-3) at Miami Dolphins (6-2)
A heavily anticipated battle between these two fierce rivals for 1st Place in the AFC East. It is no secret that the Jets have the Dolphins number and a win here would be huge for the Jets to get to 7-3 headed into their bye. The Dolphins dont need it as much standings wise, but they need it for themselves. They need to get over the hump, and that 7 game losing streak to the Jets is haunting them, not to mention the blown oppurtunitites they have had over that stretch. I expect a well played game and a very competitive football game. The breaks have been going the Jets way in this rivalry over the past couple of years and you have to figure that they are bound to go Miami's way eventually. I see Miami pulling out a late victory in what should be a game that lives up to the hype. The Jets will be in this Football game and have a chance, and should cover the 6 point spread.
SCORE: Dolphins 24 Jets 19

Indianapolis Colts (4-4) at New Orleans Saints (4-4)
A Battle between 2 teams that were thinking Super Bowl before the season started and now are battling like hell just to be in playoff contention. The Colts playoff chances took a serious blow with the absence of Edgerrin James for the remainder of the season. The loss of James, the inept defense, and the lackluster coaching of Jim Mora, could spell doom for the Colts and their season. The Colts will wind up the season's most dissapointing team and may wind up finishing under .500. The Saints come off a very tough 1 point loss at San Francisco, which followed their poor loss to the Jets. The Saints arent going lose another game at home, and they should take care of the Colts. This one may even get ugly.
SCORE: Saints 27 Colts 14

Philadelphia Eagles (5-3) at Dallas Cowboys (2-6)
The Cowboys have at least stayed competitve in their Football games this year, but as expected display a poor 2-6 record. The one game where the Cowboys were pummeled was their Sunday Night Game in Philadelphia. Now the Eagles come to Dallas, coming off their whipping of the Vikings last week. The Cowboys should do what they have done the majority of the season. Stay competitve, but as they have done 75% of the time this season, they will lose. It probably wont be a blowout, but the Eagles should still cover the 7 point spread.
SCORE: Eagles 28 Cowboys 14

San Francisco 49ers (6-2) at Carolina Panthers (1-8)
I dont care if the Detroit Lions are 0-100, the worst team in the National Football League is the Carolina Panthers. They have been beyond awful on both sides of the ball and the high flying and surprising 6-2 49ers come to town. Now with that bad mouthing of the Panthers, I think they will stay somewhat competitive in this game with the Niners because Im not completely sold on the Niners just yet. I dont think they are as good as their record states. But I Certainly do think they are good enough to win this game, and to cover the 7 point spread.
SCORE: 49ers 30 Panthers 18

Seattle Seahawks (4-4) at Buffalo Bills (1-7)
No team has been more inconsistent this year than the Seahawks. One week they are pittiful in losing at Washington, the next week they play a solid game and beat one of the best teams in the league in the Raiders. The Seahawks have looked pretty bad on the road, while the Bills, although at 1-7, have been competitive lately and played some good football. Rob Johnson is not playing for Buffalo, but does that really matter? Rob Johnson is garbage, and if Buffalo managament would have figured that out, maybe Flutie would still be there and they might be a decent football team. The Bills are 0-4 at Home, and I dont see it going to 0-5 against a team like Seattle. This is a winnable game for the Bills and that they will do.
SCORE: Bills 20 Seahawks 14

Tennessee Titans (3-5) at Cincinnati Bengals (4-4)
Well I think the air was let out of the Titans season last Monday Night/Tuesday Morning with the controversial ending to their game with the Ravens. The outcome marked a huge difference in the Titans season. Instead of 4-4 and back in the thick of things in the AFC Central, its 3-5 coming off a gut wrenching loss. The Titans still have a prayer but a loss in Cincinnati will end that prayer. This should be a very competitive football game that can go either way, but with the Home Field, I take the Bengals to upend the Titans and basically finish them off, while the Bengals continue their playoff hopes.
SCORE: Bengals 23 Titans 20 (OT)

Atlanta Falcons (4-4) at Green Bay Packers (6-2)
Im torn in this game spread wise. The spread has gone up to 10 points which is way too high as far as Im concerned. Im not a true believer in either of these teams. Im not a believer that the Falcons are a playoff contender, and Im not a believer that the Packers are a Super Bowl contender. However with this game being at Lambeau I have alot of confidence that the Packers will win this game, but the Falcons might keep it a bit interesting.
SCORE: Packers 23 Falcons 14

Chicago Bears (6-2) at Tampa Bay Bucs (4-4)
The Bears ran out of miracles last week when the Packers went into Soldier Field and forced a tie for the lead in the NFC Central. Now its another key Divisional battle for them down in Tampa. The Bucs seem destined for another late season surge and it starts this weekend. The Bucs are a better team and the Bears are improved but nowhere as improved as their 6-2 record states. Remember if the Niners dont blow a huge 4th Quarter lead, and then the Browns dont blow a 14 point lead with 30 seconds left, than the Bears would be where the Bucs are now, at 4-4. The Bears will take those wins though, but they arent taking a win this Sunday in Tampa.
SCORE: Bucs 23 Bears 9

Cleveland Browns (4-4) at Baltimore Ravens (6-3)
The Ravens seem to be getting things going. They are not winning pretty and are not looking like world beaters, but they are winning and thats all that counts. The Browns had what looked like a very promising season turn into a difficult season. They followed up their amazing loss to Chicago with another heartbreaking Overtime loss to divisional Rival Pittsburgh. This Browns team may not have alot left in the tank to take. I expect them to give it their all but fall a bit short, and it might be the last we hear from Cleveland this year.
SCORE: Ravens 20 Browns 13

San Diego Chargers (5-4) at Oakland Raiders (6-2)
The Chargers are coming down to Earth a bit. There 5-4 record is very indicative of their 5th place schedule. They head to Oakland, who are the team to beat in the AFC, and are coming off a loss in Seattle last week. Watch out San Diego, because your in Oakland's way. John Gruden will have team his ready for the kill this week, and it will get ugly.
SCORE: Raiders 34 Chargers 14

Jacksonsville Jaguars (3-5) at Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2)
How the Jaguars are a less than a Touchdown underdog is beyond me. Granted the Jags got off their 5 game snide last week by beating the Bengals, but that was the Bengals at Home. This is the Steelers on the road. Now the Jaguars might not getting blown out, but they arent going to keep it close either. The Steelers should have no problem coasting to a very comfortable 7-2 and an almost assured playoff spot, barring a late season collapse.
SCORE: Steelers 29 Jaguars 16

Washington Redskins (3-5) at Denver Broncos (4-4)
The Redskins have turned around their season after their embarrasing start. They beat the Giants and Seahawks before entering their Bye Last week. THe Broncos have been up and down. Earlier this season they were thinking Super Bowl, now they are fighting just to make the playoffs. If they are going to make the playoffs this is a Game they must have. Playing a team of Washington's caliber at home, must translate into a victory. I feel they will get that but The Redskins will keep this close. Expect a shootout at Invesco Field and a fun high scoring Football Game.
SCORE: Broncos 31 Redskins 27

Detroit Lions (0-8) at Arizona Cardinals (2-6)
When the Jets went 1-15 in 1996, their one win was in Arizona. Similar situation here only that the Lions are not an 0-8 worthy team. The Lions have run into some tough luck and with a few breaks could easily have at least 2 or 3 wins. Even at 0-8, they are a better than a few teams in this league. Name One? Ok, how about the Arizona Cardinals. Lions win this game and finally get off the snide.
SCORE: Lions 24 Cardinals 13

St. Louis Rams (7-1) at New England Patriots (5-4)
This should be a very fun and interesting Football game. I originally liked the Rams here, at least spread wise that is. But then I thought of two factors. Its going to be Cold, Ita Prime Time National TV, the crowd will be into it, the Pats are a team running on emotion right now and overachieving to the fullest, Warner is banged up. Those combinations lead me to believe that the Patriots are going to be in this Football Game. Also throw in the fact that Bill Bellichick is arguably the greatest defensive minded coach the game has ever seen, and if their is one man who can stop the Rams defenese, its him. I do however believe the Rams will pull out the win and break the Hearts of the Patriots and their fans, but the Patriots will give it all they can.
SCORE: Rams 20 Patriots 16

New York Giants (5-4) at Minnesota Vikings (3-5)
This definetly will be an emotional football game. The Vikings have that 41-0 NFC Championship game to think about, throw in the fact that its Korey Stringer Night at the Metrodome. People are saying that because of it being Korey Stringer night, the Vikings will be come out possessed to get a victory. Well they honored Korey Stringer with ceremonies to start the season, and the Vikings went out and lost to the worst team in the league, the 1-8 Panthers. Fassell will have his team ready to play a smart team, and the Vikings proved last week in Philadelphia, that they are just not a very good football team, and they certainly arent a cohesive one. They suffer from the problems the Giants had a couple of years ago, when they werent a cohesive bunch either. The Giants will win this game and put an end once again to the VIkings season.
SCORE: Giants 24 Vikings 16

1 out of 4. Not bad.

What a Great Game by the Jets!! Now as long as they dont collapse, the AFC East Division Title is coming our way.

Well, i think its time i give the Jets some respect. That was mighty impressive today aginst the Dolphins, and the Jets didnt even do well offensively. Their defense is really coming around now. The division title is pretty much theirs now, unless the Pats can catch them, which isnt too unrealistic (watch how they play aginst the Rams tonight).

Meanwhile, Jay Fielder has proven to me today that the Dolphins will never be more than an AFC divisional playoff team with him as the QB. I want Lucas in there for the next game.

That game showed me how pathetic it looks to have to go no-huddle to try and win from well behind and what a mirage last year's Jets' comebacks were. 7-1 was just that, a mirage. Now, we had two consecutive near-shutouts and two well played games and what looks like a legitimate team, compared to last years.

I was actually hoping Miami got a few more breaks late in the game because it would only lead to a turnover deep in Jets territory or a futile field goal attempt.

The end of the 1st half was a total Cluster F with how they played it, almost giving away a 1st half score to Miami. Other than that, nice game by Gang Green Team Shrek.

CF :)

How great was it to hear J-E-T-S down in Miami?

1st shutout of Dolphins in Joe Robbie, 3rd in history vs fins at home.

Not only do Jets get props, I gotta give some to Edwards. I was one of those guys who was happy with the hire, but really upset after the 49ers game. It seemed that Edwards was being stubborn and trying to fit square pegs in round holes with his defense. Saints game was start, but the last 2 games the defense has been rock solid. Bend but don't break, and big time take-aways.
Biggest difference seems to be allowing DB's to more man-to-man, and linebackers fill running holes.

Biggest break of year may be postponement of game vs Raiders; They had almost no shot of beating them in September. Now it should be good game, and even if they lose it should not hurt season.

(don't mind me, just correcting grammar :) )

It could be a break, it could also be a bad break. If the Jets slip these next couple of games and need that game to make the playoffs, its going to be last year all over again.

But I dont see that happening. As long as the Jets take care of business at Home, they will win 10 games, which their is a good chance will be good enough to win the Division. And all they have to do is win just 1 game in either Indy,Pittsburgh, or Oakland, win their Home games, and they will win 11 and barring Miami clearing the table, the Jets win the AFC East.

Great D by the Jets, 24-0, I didn't even pick the Jets to win the game! They suprised many people not by winning, but how great they played defensively and the score (24-0) Good game and I am happy. I just flat out hate the Dolphins. :)

Is it me, or was anyone else sick of seeing that NFL promo with the Dolphin fan cheering in the Jets bar?

(Of course it would have been worse if Fins actually scored ;) )
