Absolute bullshit.

He's nothing more than Kenny Lofton with slantier eyes. His numbers are just like Lofton's was in the early nineties, and no one ever thought of him for MVP.

Giambi, Boone, Alomar, Juan Gonzalez round out the top five.

Manny and Arod nowhere near the top

Ok, ill accept this slanty eyed bastard being the rookie of the year. But this??? No fucking way. Giambi is the MVP hands down in my book, and ARod and Boone are right up there. Juan Gonzalez and Ichiro would round out my top 5. This is complete bullshit.

Its Most Valuable Player, not Most Outstanding Player, therefore ARod should not be in consideration. How valuable was he to his team when they sucked from Day 1 on. I do agree though, Giambi would have been my choice for MVP.

I don't mind having th Chinaman win the MVP because throughout the year he made the most headlines, the best plays, and had a boatload of clutch hits on his way to winning the batting title.

I was real pissed when he won the Rookie of the Year, though. He's 28. He's played for six years before this. Granted, it was against inferior pitching in smaller(?) parks, but it was annoying nonetheless. But those are the rules of the game and if those rules allow a long-time veteran to win a Rookie's award, so be it.

It didn't matter if Giambi or Boone won it either, because they also deserved it.

We still kicked his ass in the ALCS, bwahaha. Sayanara!

I think the slant eye jokes are a bit ridiculous but then a gain look who I'm talking to. What the fuck does that have to do with anything? Last I saw we did have asian members on the board.

And Nasa, you dolt, he's fucking Japanese not Chinese.

{sarc}He's Japanese??? NO kidding. What with all the press he's gotten on ESPN, SI, and other media how was I to know that?

And that white flag with a red sun in the middle that FOX showed fans holding up during every game is Japanese?!? Who is supposed to know that?{/sarc} :)

I was suprised to see Ichiro win. But I read an article on ESPN.com about Ichiro and the Marines vs. Giambi and the A's. Ichiro accounted for a big part of the M's runs. Boone would not have the numbers he had if it weren't for Ichiro being on base every inning.

Ihiro was good but he didn't deserve the #1 voting. He is valuable to his team and has a great arm but Giambi had one of his best years, he deserved it more.

Exactly, FB!

The award went to the right player, IMO. I sense a lot of people are angry because it went to an "outsider" who doesn't put up awe-inspiring power numbers, but the bottom line is, he makes the other players on his team better, and the M's wouldn't have won nearly as many games without him.

Good choice.

How many games would Oakland of won without Giambi?

So the Mariners may not have won 117 without Ichiro. They may have only won 105.

As you saw in the Playoffs, yeah I know playoffs dont count for MVP Voting, Im just using it as an example, Giambi has carried that team on his back for 2 years.

Agreed, and I wouldn't be upset if Giambi had won. It's very, very close.

What puts Ichiro above Giambi, to me anyway, is two things (one arguable, one obvious):

Of course, nobody can say how many games the Mariners may have won without Ichiro, or how many games Oakland may have won without Giambi. But I'll take the player who takes a very good team into the record books, over the player who carries a mediocre team to a wild card berth.

Fielding. Ichiro had one of the best seasons ever for a RF, with amazing range, a .997 FP (League Average .982), 8 assists, and only 1 error.
Compare that with Giambi, who even in the least important field position, was merely average, wth good range, .992 FP (League Average .993), and 11 errors.

Ichiro wins on intangibles, but it's about as close as you can get.
