I probably shouldn't be shocked by this since I have NEVER seen the Mets make a move where at least 50% of their fan base is complaining after it outside of the Piazza trade (remember all the complaints when we got Leiter? Remember all the "I'm happy we got Hampton, but how can we trade Dotel and Cedeno? Phillips is an idiot." cries? This is typical Met fan bulshit. But, you people must be fucking retarded.

Quit treating Appier like God. The guy is fucking Rick Reed with an even greater potential to get injured due to his windup, nothing more nothing less. I assume the Mets will trade for a guy like Reed, and if that's the case, the Mets lose NOTHING by losing Appier other than an overblown contract. Everyone fucking hated the move to sign him last year, but now he's BETTER than a guy who hits 36 homers and knocks in 120 runs?

And don't start with this Tino bullshit because Tino Martinez can't tie Vaughn's shoelaces in terms of offense, you morons.

Vaughn brings a leader presence to the clubhouse, he wants to win and newsflash, he's only had one major injury, the bicep. This theory that he's injury prone is bullshit. He fell down the stairs once in 1999 and missed less than a month. He still knocked in numbers better than any Met other than Piazza that year. Other than that, the bicep thing is the only major injury of his career, and those injuries are the ones that don't linger. ITS BAD BACKS OR TORN ACLS THAT LINGER. So, it really shouldn't affect him. There's your reality check, TeenWeek.

Plus, Bobby V and Mets people speccifically checked on Vaughn training a week or two ago and said he looks great. DO YOU JUST THINK BOBBY V AND THE METS ARE FUCKING STUPID YOU RETARDS????????

Yes, Vaughn isn't good defensively, but who cares with his numbers. You people have to get out of Tino's ass, he's inconsistent and hit 40 HRs one year with 130 RBIs and 15 homers with 80 RBIS the next. Ask any Yankee fan. He'll suck next year for the Cards, gauranteed. And then you'll all be "thank god we got Mo."

As for Gonzalez, how do you know we won't get him? The rumor is we practically have him signed already.

Also, how can you comment on the team and it's pitching when the trading and dealing isn't done yet? Isn't that a little, how do you say, FUCKING STUPID?

If in April, Steve Phillips hasn't replaced Appier yet (and again, I think he's easier to replace as a #2 than you think) and this team is like it is now, it will still be a good team and probably win the division (have you people forgotten how much the Braves absolutely suck?) or contend. It still won't be world championship caliber and then you can complain. But until the offseason is over and you're positively sure the pitching staff is exactly like this, then here is some advice:

SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU LOOK STUPID JUST ASSUMING THIS IS IT!

Thank you.

Listen jackass. I am a Yankees fan, not a Mets fan. I was trying to be impartial. Of course I want the Mets to play well, so the yankees can kick their ass in the World Series.

The Mets pitching f'n blows. After Leiter they have an expansion team pitching staff. I would take Tino any day of the week over Mo Vaughn. Tino is a leader in the clubhouse and on the field. He is awesome defensively and made Brosious, Soriano and Jeter look better on the field that they are. He was practically the yankees best offensive weapon this year, especially the playoffs. He loves and is loved in New York. Mo Vaughn could get injured anyday and he makes Giambi look like a goldglover at first. Tino took over for Don Mattingly and made the transition flawlessly. Even though we got arguably the best player in baseball in Giambi, Yankee fans will miss Tino for the class act he really was.

Juan Gonzalez might be a maybe, but Phillips does nto want to spend money. Unless he changes his mind radically, probably won't happen.

Who is still out there that is so good pitching wise. Not too much there sport. trust me there is no Mike Mussina this year or the Yankees would have already gotten him.

Your bullpen still blows. If I am Atlanta or Arizona, I still feel confident facing the Mets pitching staff and I know that if the game is close in the 9th inning Benitez and/or franco will blow it.

But at least they won't be able to say that we "bought" the championship in 2002 with all the money they're spending.

I hate to break it to you but the Mets payroll is down $2 million. It will be up when we sign Gonzo but we aren't even close to the Yankees payroll so slow down.

If any statement SCREAMS impartial and "I'm not anti-Met!," it's that one!

My comments were basically meant to respond to the fact that Met fans complain about EVERYTHING and was meant for mainly the Met fans. But since Teen Week has dragged himself and the Yankees in, I have to respond.

First off, my only comment to you was basically about the injury proned bullshit theory, which is simply not true. The man is NOT destined to get hurt every other minute. He has had TWO injuries in his career, NONE of which are chronic. And if we're going to turn this into a Met/Yankee thing, I'd shut up if I were you, because Rondell White isn't half the player Vaughn is and he's more injury-prone and YOU signed him. So, by your logic, that means the Yankees made a stupid move in acquiring him, right?

Yeah, Tino Martinez was a class act, I agree. I wouldn't mind having him on my team, but when he is compared to Vaughn there is no comparison, I'm sorry. It's like those dumb Yankee fans who wanted Tino over Giambi. Are you insane?

Tino's highs are just about as good as Vaughn or even Giambi, but his lows are pitiful and happen way too often. With Vaughn, you know what you'll get. Basically, the Mets and Yankees have the two best offensive first basemen in baseball who are pretty bad at defense, but does that matter in an offensive position like first? If he was a butcher at short, I'd be concerned, but is a first baseman THAT important defensively, especially with the rest of the infield the Mets have?

Don't bring up bullpen, because first off, the only guy who sucks in the pen is Benitez, who is the most important guy, I'll give you that, but compared to any other top NL team, I'd put the Mets right up there with anyone. David Weathers (who was big for the Yanks in 96) and John Franco are especially solid and comapred to the TERRIBLE bullpens in St Louis (Izzy is Benitez only white), Atlanta, and yes, the World Champion, whipped the Yankees' ass I may add, Arizona Diamondbacks who have about as good a bullpen as Thurman Munson had flying skills, the Mets can roll with any of them. (You see what you made me do by turning this into a Met/Yankee thing? Now I have to apologize to his family. Apologize for their family member being a good foreshadowing of JFK Jr. that is.)

The only thing I will grant you is the starters need improvement. And I think that will happen. You can't judge the team as it stands now, Einstein, cuz it won't be the team that will start the season. If we sign Gonzalez and then trade Alfonzo for a big time starter, or even make a lesser trade for a guy like Reed or sign Helling, we will have done enough to make it a championship team I believe. I will grant you I'd rather have the Yankees rotation or the D-backs front two, but that was IMPOSSIBLE to get this offseason. All things considered, especially if what I just proposed happens, I don't know how you can bash Phillips for what he's done or bash the Mets as not being one of the favorites to win the NL and maybe even the World Series with all they've done. This is turning out to be the best offseason the Mets could've hoped for.

The Yankees have had a GREAT offseason, too, but I guess Teen Week proved their fans are more concerned over what the Mets are doing and on bashing the Mets and telling Met fans how their team blows without giving any reasons other than "I just think they blow" to back it up. Nice.

I never made it a yankee vs mets thing. My first response was very similar to what Wallace matthews of the nypost said. He mentioned that getting Gonzalez, Tino and Chan Ho park would have been better for the mets than Vaughn and Alomar. Tino is a poor mans vaughn who is a much better fielder and is a much more patient hitter. yes Vaughn is the better hitter and much better power hitter, but he strikes out a lot, and even you have to admit is overweight. he is an American League player. but Gonzalez is better than vaughn. Chan Ho Park would be your instant number 2 starter. Alfonso stays at 2nd where he wants to stay and you put Zeile at 3rd.

I am not criticizing anything that Phillips has done, because Alomar and Vaughn were both steals. The Mets to win anything when it counts, need starting pitching in the worst way. Every year but this one is where the yankees put their efforts too. And they won or made the World Series every year. Why the hell do you think the Braves won all those NL titles. Or the Diamondbacks winning the World Series. It is because they had dominiant starting pitching.

Dude relax. Hopefully you have done enough or will do more and we can smack the shit out of you in the World Series. I am a yankees fan first, but I still follow baseball especially what the mets are doing, so i know what is going on.

Nothing to do with this thread :
P.S Bud Selig is still the worst commisioner in the history of professional sports. i am sure francine banger will name me about 10 worse for various reasons, but Selig is a dickhead who is ruining the entire game.

TeenWeek,

I found another thing to disagree with you on and that's Chan Ho Park. In fairness, I was thinking along your lines, too, then I saw some stats that made me say,"No thank you." I don't have them, I'll try to find them and paste thme on this thread if I ever do find them, but he has had, almost every year of his career, a 4.50 ERA on the road and a 2 ERA at home, in friendly to fly ball pitchers Dodger Stadium. I know Shea is a pitcher's park, too, but not as much as Dodger Stadium is and I think after reading those stats, the Mets made the right move, especially considering he signed for like $12 mil a year I believe, he's just not worth it. On a side note, he went to TEXAS? Playing half of his games in THAT park? Oh man, get ready for Mike Hampton in Colorado!

On a side note, I didn't think I was overreacting, I thought it was the other way around, but whatever. You're a wrestling fan and you have a great sig pic, so I shouldn't hate you that much.
