Two sources say Blues offered Turgeon

ST. LOUIS – After months of demanding a trade only to the Toronto Maple Leafs, it appears Eric Lindros has changed his stance.

ESPN has learned that the Flyers have turned down a trade with the Blues on Friday that would have sent center Pierre Turgeon to Philadelphia in exchange for the disgruntled Lindros.

Carl Lindros, Eric Lindros' agent and father, confirmed that he has been in contact with three playoff contenders concerning a trade for Eric Lindros, and that the Flyers star had agreed that he would accept a trade to the Blues.

Two sources went on to say that the Blues made an initial trade offer of Turgeon on Friday, an offer that was turned down.

Turgeon, the Blues' top center, has 27 goals and 43 assists in 65 games this season.

Previously, Eric Lindros has said that he only would accept a trade to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The position changed Friday, with the NHL trading deadline set for Tuesday.

Blues GM Larry Pleau confirmed that he had talked to both Carl Lindros and the Flyers about Eric Lindros. Flyers GM Bob Clarke had no comment.

"The only thing I would comment on is that I have talked with the Lindros family and I have talked to the Flyers," said Blues GM Larry Pleau, who arrived back in St. Louis late Thursday night from the GM meetings in La Quinta, California.

In terms of an actual trade offer, Pleau said: "I'd rather not discuss that, but I've definitely talked to both parties."

I think both these teams are stupid. St. Louis is stupid for offering Turgeon who one of their KEY Players for a guy who hasnt played in a year and is one good hit away from Muhamad Ali status. And Philadelphia is stupid for not accepting it. They are a contender right now and they refuse to add Pierre Turgeon without giving up anything from the current roster? I know Turgeon is a Free Agent and may walk, but Bobby Clarke has to realize that no team is going to give up a shitload of players and prospects for a guy in the state of condition that Lindros is.

As a lifelong Flyers fan, I can tell you that this Lindros situation runs very deep. Clarke is determined not to give Lindros up unless a trade that simply can't be passed up is offered. This has become a blood feud, and Clarke is perfectly content to let Lindros sit out indefinately.

It is silly to say the least, but there is a lot of bad blood, and nobody wants to back down. If definately pisses me off to see a good chance to make the Flyers a better team just wasting away.

As for Lindros, he is a difficult player to trade because he is known as a bad club house guy. Many of the players he has played with can't stand him. If you are making a playoff run, you have to be concerned with chemistry, especially in hockey. Also, you have to be scared of losing him to injury days after you get him.

I heard a radio interview with Clarke last week where he stated that he really doesn't expect to see Lindros playing this year. Well, we will know by Tuesday.

this was a try by St. L. knowing that it would most likely be shot dowm --- Turgeon
is an URFA after this season and can sign anywhere. That is why the flyers said no.

well i'm one person who's glad that the teams didn't make the deal. if turgeon had ended up on the flyers, i would have had to (slightly, partially, remotely) root for them! see, i'm a true isles fan, and i root for the guys who leave when they were actually FORCED to leave by some fucking bonehead gm (turgeon - maloney; palffy - milbury; etc.)
