The NY Giants have signed DE Kenny Holmes to a 5 year deal. He will replace Cedric Jones in the starting lineup, and Jones will most likely be released now.

I got it from a fantasy football site - kffl.com - Heres what they had written:

quote:

Giants | Holmes Landed- posted at KFFL (nfl.kffl.com)
20:00 ET: Terry McCormick, of the Nashville City Paper, has informed KFFL the New York Giants have landed free agent DE Kenny Holmes. Holmes, an unrestricted free agent, has agreed to a five-year deal. Financial terms were not immediately available.

-And I'm pretty sure he did play w/ the Titans before.

Cedric JONES will not be RELEASED. he is a promising DE who has improved over the last 3 seasons. he may be traded for DRAFT choice(s) but he was a first round pick a few years ago and it is not likely the Giants will simply DROP him!!

Jones was a terrible pass-rusher, but to his credit, he was a very good run stopper.

From what i understand, Jones will have to be released to clear the cap-space to fit Holmes under the cap. I may be wrong though...

Sorry Sniper - players get released regardless of draft position, it's all about performance (and cap numbers nowadays). Case in point, Ryan Leaf

Yeah, if teams didn't release players based solely on draft position, Brian Bosworth would still be in the NFL.
