Now Gary Sheffield doesn't want the Los Angeles Dodgers to trade him.

The fickle outfielder abruptly dropped his trade request Saturday, adding yet another twist to his strange spring training with the Dodgers.

``Gary no longer wants to be traded. He has rescinded that,'' agent Jim Neader said. ``He says he will honor the terms of his contract and just go out and play.''

Sheffield, who asked for the trade after the Dodgers refused to extend his contract beyond 2004, left the clubhouse at Vero Beach, Fla., before his newest stance became known.

``All I'm hearing is secondhand that Gary has rescinded his trade demand,'' Dodgers general manager Kevin Malone said. ``I haven't heard it myself.''

As a Dodger fan, i'm glad he's staying cuz LA didn't get any even trade offers for him. But I hope he goes out and plays all out and doesn't pull stuff like he did w/ the Brewers awhile back when he would purposuley mess up.

WHATEVER !!! Something tells me that someone probably told Gary that he would get his wish if he kept his mouth shut and just played ball.

call me crazy but I think this is some kind of negotiating ploy to try and get higher value for him by making it seem that now the dodgers aren't so despirate to get rid of him

Well, that's what he was threatening to do, it's people like him who give sports a real bad name.

Hey maybe Steve phillips will come out and say that The Mets really want Sheffield now.. :)

I say let's wait till July when "GARY" ,as he was referring to himself in the 3rd person like Henderson, starts to bitch and moan again and wants out and wants a lifetime contract and all that crap.... Then we can lowball Malone again and get him for the run till the playoffs.

the mets already cut off all talks. the dodgers were suspected of asking for, get this, piazza, fonzie or armando. are the dodgers nuts??

the mets were only offering cook and hamilton and maybe payton and escobar.

either way, even though everyone says that we don't need hottempered sheffield, he would have given a boost to the lineup, plus when was the last time we have an allstar outfielder?

Sheffield just realized that he's not worth the agitation.
Thank god the Mets did not get him. He'd be fighting with every player on the team starting with Lenny Harris and ending with Bobby Valentine.
Sheffield is a good player, but at what cost? His ego. I'd rather take a bad player who tries his best than take that Screwhead.
