Anything can happen in the NHL playoffs and all, but christ, they have 8 Hall-of-Famers, how the hell can they not win it?

I think my mask of sanity              is about to slip

Look how old all 8 of those hall-of-famers are. If the Oilers were playing against Detroit, I would picked Oilers in 7. Just because they are such a fast team and anyone can get by Chelios these days. The Red Wings were a better team in 95-96, when they set the Single-Season Points record then they are now, and they lost to the Avs. That's one thing about the Red Wings, they lost to the Sharks, they lost to the Avs, they lost to the Kings. They'll get by the Canucks, but they won't win the cup. Shoot me if I'm wrong...

Well in a week and a half Jeremy and the boys can join them on the course.

I think I will go pop in my tape of June 14, 1994 when my team won the Stanley Cup. My team may be in an embarrasing stretch right now, but Ive seen my team win the Holy Grail, how about you Dice?

That thing's gonna be really worn out before the Rangers ever win it again, so you might want to make a backup copy or something, maybe get the DVD too.

Actually they were, but I don't think they were invented the times the Rangers won the cup before 1994. Nice try. Watch out for that backfire.

Actually, I gotta a two for one deal...twice. I learned how to talk when they won the first one. Then the second year I learned how to go pee pee in pottie when they won the second. So the whole experience was twice as good for me.

But I guess that still doesn't beat you. You we're just learning how to jerkoff when the Rangers won it. You probably busted all over the screen as Messier hoisted the Cup.

BTW Don't count the Flyers out just yet this year.

It seems like a lot of people are picking the Wings to go all the way. Honestly, they may not even make it past Vancouver. Vancouver is on an incredible roll. Bertuzzi is playing possessed and Cloutier is making some big saves. Detroit has played like shit recently. And Hasek is too complacent right now. I would not be surprised to see Vancouver go on past Detroit.

NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs 2nd Round Predictions

EASTERN CONFERENCE

#3 Carolina Hurricanes vs. #8 Montreal Canadiens
Who would have ever expected that this would be a playoff series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, nevermind a 2nd Round series. The Hurricanes surprised and ousted the Devils, while the Canadiens ousted the top seeded Bruins. This isnt going to be a marquis series, but it should be very competitive. The Canadiens have been on a magical run for about 2 months now, and I dont see any reason why they shouldnt continue that. The Hurricanes did get past the Devils, but they did squeak out four 1 goal victories, including 2 of them in Overtime. Expect the 8th seeded Canadiens to get past the Canes in a competitive series.
PREDICTION: Canadiens in 6

#4 Toronto Maple Leafs vs. #7 Ottawa Senators
These teams had very different 1st Rounds. The Senators had a cake walk against a gutless Flyers team, while the Leafs survived an all out war against the Islanders. I favor the Senators big time here for 3 reasons. First off the absence of Mats Sundin. The Leafs survived the Islanders series without Sundin, but now the loss of their top player and one of the top players in the league is going to kick in. As time goes on, the loss of a player like that starts to build up. Second, Ottawa has been ousted by Toronto in the playoffs for 2 straight years, and are looking for revenge against Toronto. And third, after that Islanders series, I cant see Toronto having much left for the well rested Senators. The Senators have been a great defensive team and this should be a very low scoring series, and I expect it to be absolutley dominated by the Senators.
PREDICTION: Senators in 4

WESTERN CONFERENCE

#1 Detroit Redwings vs. #4 St. Louis Blues
This will be a very fun series to watch. The Redwings survived a major scare from the Canucks to win 4 straight games after losing the first 2. After losing the first game to the Blackhawks, the Blues rebounded by winning 4 straight games of their own. The Redwings got that reprieve in the 1st round, and most times when big time teams survive a huge scare in the 1st Round, they go on to do major damage the rest of the way. I think the Wings will get past the Blues, but expect the Blues to challenge the Wings and give them all they can, and a win by the Blues in this series wouldnt be totally out of the question.
PREDICTION: Redwings in 6

#2 Colorado Avalanche vs. #3 San Jose Sharks
This should be the best series of the 2nd Round and I feel the Sharks are ready for the challenge. The Sharks to need to take advantage early and the 1st game of the series is very important for the Sharks if they are to win the series. The Avalanche are just coming off their 7 game series win against the Kings, while the Sharks are well rested. If the Sharks jump on them in Game 1, I give the Sharks an excellent shot in this series. The Sharks seemingly improve every year and this year I feel they have improved enough to be able to knock off the big team in the 2nd round. This Sharks team can do some serious damage and Im taking them to knock off the defending Champs.
PREDICTION: Sharks in 6

It will be a MAJOR upset if a team from the East wins the Cup this year. The West looks so much more dominant. The only way I see an East victory - the East representative has a cakewalk through the next two rounds and the West team has 2 all out wars in their two rounds.

FB, the only threat IMO is Colorado who lost to San Jose. Detroit isn't what it should be, I won't be surprised if they lose to Colorado in the Semis. If Ottawa moves on it's a different story though...

Colorado is the only threat? First of all they are going to lose the series to San Jose in my opinion, and Detroit isnt what they should be? Well what should they be? They only dominated the regular season, and then after losing the first 2 games to Vancouver who was the hottest team in the league for 3 months, they responded by winning 4 straight.

If I had to rank the 8 remaining teams left, I would rank them as follows.

1. Detroit
2. Colorado
3. San Jose
4. St. Louis
5. Ottawa
6. Toronto
7. Montreal
8. Carolina

2002 NHL EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS
#3 Carolina Hurricanes vs. #4 Toronto Maple Leafs
Not what you would have figured the Eastern Conference Finals to be, but as the case has been most often lately in the Eastern Conference Playoffs, anything can happen. Im sure the NHL isnt too thrilled about this matchup, as its not exactly going to be the series that lifts up the NHL's weak ratings, but it should be a competitive series. You have to give Toronto a ton of credit for coming back in their series against Ottawa. It looked like Ottawa was just going to steam roll through that series, but Toronto withstood the pressure and vastly short handed, they have found themselves in the Eastern Conference Finals after 2 straight 7 game series victories. Carolina deserves a ton of credit for first off knocking off the 2 time defending Eastern Conference Champion Devils in the 1st Round, and then coming back from a 3 goal 3rd period deficit in Game 4 to knock off the Canadiens and then breeze through the final 2 games of that series. Toronto is worn down, but right now are playing on guts. I think this series will be very competitve and will come down to the end, but right now Im liking Toronto, especially if Mats Sundin can make a comeback and get back into the lineup at some point in this series. It just seems that Toronto is destined for a run at this thing, and Ill take them to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.
PREDICTION: Maple Leafs in 7

2002 NHL WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS
#1 Detroit Redwings vs. #2 Colorado Avalanche
Well the NHL may not have a marquis matchup in the Eastern Conference Finals, but they could not have asked for a better matchup in the Western Conference Finals. The Playoff wars between the Redwings and Avalanche return after a 1 year absence. These teams have played some of the most gruesome, hard hitting, and firece series' played, and that should be no different here. These teams are by far the best 2 teams in the NHL. Colorado has had a tough time getting here as they had to win 2 straight 7 Game series' against California teams. While Detroit got a scare by Vancouver by losing the first 2 games, but since then has breezed through, winning 8 of their last 9 and easily putting away St. Louis in 5 games. This is the type of series that can put Hockey on the map, expect bits of everything, as their are World Class Players galore on these two teams, not to mention 2 of the greatest goaltenders of all time in Patrick Roy and Dominik Hasek. I see this one going the distance, and maybe the wear and tear of playing so many games will catch up to Colorado and this is one 7 game series they wont win but it should be a fantastic one to watch.
PREDICTION: Redwings in 7

Atleast we will probably be seeing lots of hockey, which is always cool. I will be watching the Avs/Wings series alot, they have a great rivalry! And the East isn't as bad 'a matchup as the NHL thinks. Look how popular Hockey is in Carolina! Holy S! Let's go Whalers...

2002 NHL STANLEY CUP FINALS

Detroit Redwings vs. Carolina Hurricanes
The NHL is still playing and we have come to the Stanley Cup Finals. The Stanley Cup Finals is very similar to this years NBA Finals. The Team out West which everybody expects to win against the team out east where nobody expects them to win. The Canes did a good job getting to this point but now they meet a test far superior to any one they have had previously. Can the Hurricanes cause some heads to turn and play competitive? Yeah they can. Can Carolina win this series? Absolutely not. I wouldnt be surprised however if Carolina sneaks up on Detroit early. I think Carolina has a shot to take Game 1, but after that, the Wings will recover and the only question is can Carolina extend this series past 5. This isnt an 8th seeded team that Carolina is playing, this isnt a worn down injury rattled team that Carolina is playing. This is the best team in hockey, and the Redwings are almost assured, barring a major miracle of their 3rd Stanley Cup in 6 years. I do take the Canes to win Game 1 and get things interesting, but Ill take the Wings to clobber the Canes in game 2, win a couple of close games in Carolina, and then close out the Canes at home to win the Cup.

Obviously, the Hurricanes are a major underdog in the cup finals, but don't count them out just yet. After all, the three teams that were supposed to beat them didn't get the job done. You can't underestimate a teams heart and desire. Red Wings do have a lot of weapons, but the Hurricanes could make this series very interesting. Prediction: Red Wings in 7
