That bitch at the columbus game just had
to die....(only kidding. joking. that was sad.)

They are seriously thinking or are about to place safety netting behind goals next season in the nhl.

First they let teams like Carolina reach the finals, and now this??

I just hope it doesnt fuck up my view.

Many colleges already do it. I believe one of the Michigan schools do, if I'm not mistaken. We talked about it at length in the sports law course I took last semester and there was even mention of rinks that have netting all the way around the ice to prevent any pucks from reaching the crowd. It's a thing that should have been done a long time ago and baseball should seriously consider covering more sections with netting (granted I believe pucks are more dangerous than baseballs). So many cases of serious injuries go unreported because lots of them actually develop while after the incident occured. There's no reason someone should be risking their life or wellbeing going to a sporting event.

Remember if you or someone you know gets seriously injured the disclaimer on the back of your ticket means absolutely nothing. Sue their asses. Studies and research have been done about the lack of safety precautions and owners and leagues turn the other way because all they're worried about is their bottomline.

I thought black people only scalp hockey tickets. They don't actually watch it.

Now granted it sucks that someone died by being struck by a puck .... but, come on .... in how ever long the NHL has been around 1 fan has died from this .... if it happened more than once I understand but the NHL has been around for what ... 80 yrs .... I don't even know but its been a long time .... and how many people do you think would bitch with the nets being put up .... more people would bitch than be happy and owners and franchises would start to take them down when they realized that people were getting upset enough to not buy tickets .... it might happen but it wont stay for long if it does ....

Peopel will have to deal with it. One person died but many have been hurt and taken to the hospital. This helps the teams from being liable to any injury or lawsuit that may happen.

All I am saying is that when ticket sales go down .... teams will take the chance and take them down .... like Jimbo said owners and franchises only care about their bottomline .... so fans will have to take a risk but it will make the owner more money so thats all that matters ....

Why will ticket sales go down. People will get used to it after a few games. I am also sure more families would be more incline to come to a game knowing that their kids won't dir or get hit wiht a puck.

People will suck it up and get used to it.

istink - Why are the most expensive seats at a baseball game, the seats right behind the plate? They are the best seats in the place, right? They have netting behind them don’t they? Do people complain about the net, no, and why because it protects them from being hit in the head with a ball going 90MPH+. The same way the netting is used behind the plate and NOT the whole stadium is the same thing the NHL is going to do. Just put the netting behind the actual nets. You will still be able to get seats along the boards without netting.

... I assume you mean where .... but anyway, no .... the most expensive seats are behind the dugouts .... and in hockey the most expensive seats are behind the bench .... I'll forgive that because you are a yankees fan .... and I understand most of you aren't that bright .... the people who actually go to hockey are almost all bigtime fans of hockey .... basbeall has a bunch of liesurely customers who will go to a game a few times a year .... trust me, it won't happen and if it does the fans that bitch will outweigh the fans that come to the game because there are nets .... it won't last for long ....

So what is MLB going to do about foul balls and loose bats going into the stands? Some girl got hit in the head with (I think it was) Jeromy Burnitz' bat just the other day. What to do, WHAT TO DO!?

Heh... That's going to look terrible! Trust me, I've been to rinks with mesh behind the goal nets. It looks brutal, it darkens the a,rena! I always liked sitting behind the goalie nets because I'd get lots of pucks shot in the stands and I could beat people up for them...:( This sucks but I guess if it saves lives it's worth it right?
