This trade fucking blows. Mcdyss is coming off a serious injury and played less games than Camby did. When the fuck are the Knicks going to start building a championship team. All the Knicks management care about is selling out the building. They don't care at all about winning a championship. I would have much rather gotten Butler or Wilcox and traded Camby and Mark Jackson for say an Andre Miller.

Layden is a fucking moron and at best the Knicks get eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

From espn.com:

New York Knicks
Round 1: Frank Williams, 6-3, PG, Illinois (No. 25)
Round 2: Milos Vujanic, 6-2, PG, Yugoslavia (No. 36)
Deals: Obtained Williams and Antonio McDyess for No. 7 pick (Nene Hilario), Mark Jackson and Marcus Camby.
Scott Layden's back was against the wall. He doesn't believe you can rebuild in New York and he's probably right. So instead of grabbing a young Antonio McDyess in Chris Wilcox, he went for the real thing. He immediately added the All-Star power forward the team has coveted for years. Frank Williams may very well be the point guard of the future and the Knicks may not be done. If they figure out a way to move Charlie Ward and Kurt Thomas for Nick Van Exel they're a free agent center away from competing for the Eastern Conference title again. Unbelievable.
Grade: A-
I totally agree with this assessment. I have sources with the Nets, who were also hot after McDyess, that it's bullshit that McDyess sat out most of last season because of his injuries but rather because he just did not want to play for Denver. I think Frank Williams will be something special and could possibly start sometime this year if he gets his act together and the 2nd rounder I just don't care about. A 2nd round pick will never be kept by the NY Knicks. If they pull of this Thomas/Ward for Van Exel trade, which I've heard Nellie is actually pushing for Thomas, the only missing piece is a center and Zhizhi is out there. I wouldn't mind going into the season with a lineup of McDyess, Spree, Zhizhi, Houston, and Van Exel. That could match up with most of the East's starting 5s.

This is my problem with Layden. NY fans are better than that. What you can't do is suck with no hope.

McDyess is definitely better than Camby, and even though he had serious injury Camby has been brittle. The question is which would you rather have - McDyess or Camby AND Butler (or Wilcox). Knicks just got SHORTER. When they get rid of their 3rd String PF (Witherspoon), Howard Eisley 2nd/3rd string PG), Shandon Anderson, and Felton Spenser, then they'll be moving in the right direction.

Now Starting at Center - Kurt Thomas - 6'9", 235lbs

2002 Crack Committee Objectives: (modified version)(You gotta try and believe....)
1.Hate the Braves with PASSION and extreme prejudice
1a. Try and go a week without having to punch a wall in frustration after watching the Mets play
2. 90 Wins and somehow get the Mets into playoffs this year
3. All 5 Starters have winning records this year
3a.Have team understand it is OK to get a hit with runners on base.
4. Mets win World Series (after divine intervention)

well the knicks did alright i think...but until they learn how to build for the future instead of trying to appease people with names, they will not win.

the best story of the draft is Juan Dixon going at 17 to his semi-hometown team the wizards after being tagged to barely make the first round. nobody deserves it more than this guy, everyone pulls for him. he got the best crowd reaction at the garden too, it was really cool to hear.

McDyess is scheduled to make 12 mil next season, Camby+Jackson were only making 11 mil.

You're forgetting the guaranteed 3 million/year for 3 years the knicks would have had to pay for whoever they draft #7. layden saved money, but not much.
