FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -- When the Atlanta Falcons traded for Michael Vick, they made it clear that his hefty contract demands would not be a problem.

On Wednesday, just 2 1/2 weeks after taking Vick with the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, the Falcons signed him to the richest rookie contract in league history.

Vick received a $62 million, six-year deal that guarantees $15.3 million through the first three years, including a signing bonus of $3 million.

Not at all, unless he can play offense, defense, kick field goals and punt. Now the falcons are gonna suck cause they are gonna have to (or already do) pay Anderson a shit load of money and they will be the only two quality players on the team. The rest of the team will have to make under 1 mill a year so the Falcons can stay under the cap and those players are either coming out of college or couldn't get bigger money somewhere else cause they aren't that good.

He is definitely worth it. 62 Mil is a steal. Wait until his next contract, then you will see some big bucks. Who cares if the guys make a lot of money. If the owners are willing to pay the players, and the fans are willing to pay the price for the tickets. Who cares???

He doesnt deserve a contract like that not ever playing a game in the NFL. He is no Guaranteed Hall of Famer. If he's worth that money, then whats somebody like Peyton Manning worth?

Obviously we don't have any econ majors in the house. Is he getting paid 62 million? Enough said. People said the same shit about Piazza when he got 90 mil, now that is a bargain, relatively speaking...

Piazza also had 5 years under his belt and had proved himself to be on pace to be the Greatest Hitting Catcher of All Time.

Michael Vick has proved nothing. He has the same amount of NFL Touchdowns and Yards as I do.

OK, that's my queue. As the econ major, circa 1997, no he is not. Can anyone say Richy Williams. I think there should be a rookie year salary cap. Teams are starting to pay crazy amounts for unproven players. Economically that is a really bad idea. Make them play a couple of years and earn the right to such big $$$.

I agree, this WAS the problem in the NBA with high draft picks missing training camps because of a contract impass. Paying HUGE sums of money based on potential. Once they have proven their worth, then they get the big contract. The NFL will need to do something like this to get players in camp on time

That is exactly what I was thinking. I think he should have to prove himslef first in the NFL before getting signed to a huge contract.

All you do is bring up examples of a few guys who failed. How about the majority of the young players who aren't paid what they are worth (relatively speaking).

Mobyworm,
You have a very good point. take for example, Wayne Chrebet,, he was a walk on for somewhere around the league minimum and he busted his ass to get a fat paycheck.. point well taken mobyworm
