San Fransisco left fielder Barry Bonds has 30 home runs after just 57 team games making him the fastest player to ever reach the 30 home run mark.

Barry Bonds, 2001: 57 games
Babe Ruth, 1928: 63
Mark McGwire, 1998: 64
Ken Griffey Jr., 1994: 65

Do you think that Bonds, known for not being a clutch hitter, can set a new record for home runs in a season?

This guy is so not clutch, if he does break it, his team will probably be losing 10-1 in the seventh and he'll hit one with 2 out and none on. Personally, the way he is swinging, he has a chance...then again remember that last month, everyone thought that luis gonzalez would do the same thing, and look at him now.

He could, but teams are already starting to walk him intentionally. He hit a homerun the other night his first time at bat, and then was walked the next 3 times up.

The only reason he has a shot in my opinion is because of his division...It is tough, but the ballparks there are homerun happy, i mean he sees coors field more than mcguire and sosa. However, i think the media pressure will get to him like in the past, plus Froy is right, they will walk him so much that his rhythm will be moosh.

I hope so I have him and Luis Gonzalez on my fantasy baseball team. 70 for both of them is a dream, but I would be happy with 50-60 out of each.

I bet I will soon wish I was still adopted by Fez.

Bonds is on such a tear right now, but i doubt he will be able to sustain this pace for the rest of the season.

hopefully he can, however, because it will be great to watch.

Not an easy thing to keep doing when last year's MVP bats behind him.

I think he has a chance. Keep in mind he plays 9 games in Coors Field and has Right Field catered to him at Pac Bell.

But keep in mind Bonds is no stranger to injuries, and something is going to slow him down. I wouldnt expect him to reach 70, but I wouldnt rule it out either.

He may beat Maris, but probably not Big Mac.

I asked myself this same question this morning..
Then realized that there's no way in hell he can do it, and here's why:
Summer is coming quickly.. Bonds is black.. Black absorbs sunlight.. He'll be too fucking hot to hit home runs when august rolls around..

If he doesn't get injured, yeah he can do it.And look at the statistics. 30 HR per 57 games. there's more than 114 game left so if he continues hitting at that average he will get 90 hr.

Actually Gamepro it averages out to a little over 85 homers for the season, so if he doesn't get hurt or crack under the pressure of the obvious death threats he's gonna receive, he is on pace to easily break the record.

Bonds is getting older and I really don't think he has the stamina over the next 114 dayz to hit 40. But I could be wrong you never know.

I've always liked Bonds so I hope he does it. But 70 is a fluke number. Bonds has never even been close to it. Kinda hard to say right now whether he has a shot or not.

Does anyone notice how fast the Giants are falling to the cellar of the NL West.

Oh, and by no surprise from me, he hit #32 in the seventh inning when his team was down by 6 runs...Anyone think Jeff Kent is getting pissed off yet??

Ofcourse his home runs come when they are winning by a lot or losing by a lot. They walk him if it is a close game. If Kent started hitting and could protect Bonds so they couldn't pitch around him, then you would see Bonds hitting homers in close games.

I bet I will soon wish I was still adopted by Fez.

They are projecting he will hit 80 something if he keeps up this blistering pace. But he will die, wether it will be from injury, fatigue, or just the pressure of the media he wont do it.

Drinking? Damn right!

A month ago I thought that he would choke a fall off but now he has 38 home runs in 71 games the most before the allstar break. So i would like to declare myself on the Barry Bonds Bandwagon.

Hey, he will be a Met next year anyway so i may as well start now.

he is way ahead of McGwire's pace from 98. he'll be past 40 by the all-star break.

if he stays healthy, i think he'll do it.
