I just thought that I would make 1 universal thread now for the upcoming NFL season, now that the Devils have finally lost :) and my Mets suck ass this year :(, I am eagerly anticipating the upcoming football year. Hopefully, the New York football Giants can make it to the Dance again and win this time.

So far I'm a little bummed cause Ike Hilliard (my opinion the best receiver on the team) is hurt and didn't bother to tell anyone, and Fassel is pissed off. Hilliard wont be ready for the season opener, which is not good considering it is monday night in Denver's new stadium. The addition of Holmes on the D-Line will help immensely, and will make our front 7 comparable to the Bears of 85 and the Giants of 86.

the jets are really screwing themselves so far this offseason...the lost dedric ward AND ray lewis via free agency. And worse, they both went to the Dolphins lol.

Wise prediction, but here's another prediction, which i'm sure not many people will agree with..

The San Diego Chargers will make the Playoffs as a Wild Card.

They got Doug Flutie and Drew Brees...also for RB they got Tomlinson from TCU i think. And they upgraded their O-Line a little bit. Now the already good defense with Seau will have something to play for and be better.

yea, Tomlinson should be really good. I was never big on Flutie, but he should do OK, Anyone is an improvement from Ryan Leaf

they also have some WR's for Flutie and Brees to throw to, like Tim Dwight, Jeff Graham, and Curtis Conway, as well as one of the top 3(maybe #2) TE's in the league in Freddie Jones.

Combined with all these additions, and their schedule, which is a last place schedule based on last year, they will make the playoffs with a 10-6 record.

I still think they fucked up not being able to sign Michael Vick. I'm excited to see how he does with the Falcons. I didn't watch Virginia Tech much this year, but he looked unbelievable in the title game against FSU the year before.

Michael Vick is a great player, dont get me wrong, but with all the stuff the Chargers got back: Tomlinson, Dwight, and they still got a good QB in Brees, the Chargers made out better. Plus, the falcons still suck, they will finish with a record below .500, so i think the Chargers got the better end of the deal.

How bout Jesse Armstead's latest bitch move skipping mandatory practice & demanding more money. It's safe to say IMO that he is the heart of the team and it'd be good if he could set a good example.

Yeah, i didnt think Jesse was that type of player, i suspect that he will be back soon though. Plus, Fassel is even more upset with Hilliard right now then Armstead, so if I were Jesse, I'd come back ASAP.

Bad news today for my team, the Giants, as Joe Montgomery ruptured his Achilles heel and will miss the entire 2001 season.

This really fucking sucks, I liked this guy alot and felt that he should have been used instead of Dayne more last year. Now we have only Dayne and Barber, with no insurance behind them. So far, not good for the G-Men.

Losing Mongtomery is no big deal. We just need Dayne to produce a little more and Barber to have the same type of season he did last year and we'll be fine. I don't think the 3rd or 4th RB on the depth chart going down will be critical to the success or failure of the Giants this year. A Minor loss at best.

I doubt Joe Montgomery would have been used much this year anyway, but I feel bad for the guy. just suffers injury after injury and never really got a chance.

I disagree with Angelo only for one reason. Montgomery was just about to take Dayne's job last year, but we didn't wanna ruin the chemistry of the team at that point. There are no guarantees that Dayne will be better this year, he could be the next Rashan Salaam. So, I think it is a bigger loss than most people think.

Ok, here's a little question for everyone, want to know who you choose and why:

Which starting QB will make the most impact for their new teams:

a) Tony Banks (Cowboys)
b) Matt Hasselbeck (Seahawks)
c) Elvis Grbac (Ravens)
d) Brad Johnson (Buccaneers)
e) Trent Green (Chiefs)
f) Doug Flutie (Chargers)

I personally think FLutie is gonna make the biggest impact, but Johnson is a close second. The chargers will really appreciate what Flutie brings to the table, and give them a QB which they havent had since Stan Humphries. However, Tampa Bay was better than San Diego, and the only reason they didnt go anywhere is because of not having a QB. Johnson will help them out.

I think Flutie would be my pick as well. He brings some much needed veteran leadership and dispite his age, is still a good QB. In a close second I'd say Trent Green cuz I just think he has tremendous skill.

I don't think Brad Johnson will do much for the Bucs unless Dungy changes his offensive system, cuz he just doesn't use the passing attack that much.

Doug Flutie cuz when you are 1-15, you can't go anywhere but up. Trent Green should do well, Banks will make the Cowboys worse than they actually are if that's possible.

I know I have a question already in this thread, but I am going to post another one because the NFL has made an announcement about this. It seems that the playoff games will now take place during the night instead of the afternoon. The games will start at 4:30pm and 8:30pm. I don't know if I like this or not.

So, I want to know what all of you think about this, maybe I can form an opinion of this based off of your answers. The other question is not dead yet either, so you can answer that if you wish.

Question #1 - Brad Johnson. I think Tampa will change their offense, now that they have a QB that can actually get the ball to the receivers. My question about that though is how long will it be before Keyshawn starts ragging on him.

Question #2 - The networks definitely have something to do with that decision. With all of the money they're spending to televise football, they need to do whatever they can to maximize their ad revenues. They won't get Super Bowl money, but they'll definitely make out with the shift.
