| Hanger-On Registered: Nov. 00  | Capitals trade for Jagr WASHINGTON -- The Washington Capitals have acquired superstar winger Jaromir Jagr from the Pittsburgh Penguins, Capitals' general manager George McPhee announced today. In the blockbuster deal, the Capitals get Jagr and defenseman Frantisek Kucera from the Pens in exchange for Kris Beech, Michal Sivek, Ross Lupaschuk and future considerations. "Our main objective for the upcoming season was to add offense to our club, and acquiring one of the top offensive players in the league addresses that need," McPhee said. "Our team is a better team today as a result of this trade and we will continue to work to make the club better." Jagr, 29, is one of only five players to lead the NHL in scoring five times, including each of the last four years. Jagr won the Hart Trophy as the league MVP in 1999 and has appeared in the NHL All-Star Game seven times. This season Jagr led the NHL with 121 points, shared the league lead with 69 assists and was third with 52 goals. Jagr helped lead the Penguins to the Eastern Conference finals. The trade gives Washington the NHL's two most prolific goal scorers since the 1994-95 season in Jagr and Peter Bondra. Jagr and Bondra, who made their NHL debuts in the same game (Oct. 5, 1990), have scored 314 and 281 goals, respectively, since the start of the 1994-95 season to lead the NHL. Who the F*** are these guys the Caps gave up? Now the Rangers have to get Lindros, but he'll probably get whacked in the head and then call it a career. Looks like another long season on Broadway. What's worse is, if this were the Neil Smith Rangers, we would now overpay to get Lindros in a poor attempt to compensate. Let's hope Sather doesn't do something stupid like that. The Ranger management is absolutely fucking inept. Unless they convince Lemieux to sell his share of the team and accept a trade to NY, this is inexcusable...Jagr was theirs for the taking. | ||||

In a matter of 6 months, the Best Player in baseball and the Best Player in Hockey were supposed to go to my Teams, and neither happens. The Rangers were the only team in the running, and they still dont get the guy. The Penguins screwed the Rangers here. The Rangers were offering a much better package than this. But lets not start planning Stanley Cup Parades. The Team still is not making any other team scared. Remember last year, you guys got Hamrlik and made some minor moves and everybody was like, The Islanders are making a Playoff Run! What happened? You finished with the worst record in the League by 10 Points!! The Islanders certainly arent the worst team in the NHL anymore, but they are certainly no Lock to be in the Playoffs either. And you can say the Rangers suck all you want, sure they do. But they are still on par with the Islanders. | ||||

What ever prospects they were gonna give up they need for the future. If they wanted to improve their team they should have went after the free agents that were on the market. I am sure they did but apparently they were not willing to give the money these players wanted.
