This makes a whole lot of fucking sense...the Mets decide to get rid of their backup catcher for a worse backup catcher. I can see last place closer than I can see first, and these jackasses think that this is how to rebuild??

MIAMI (AP) -- In a swap of backup catchers, the New York Mets sent Todd Pratt to the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday for Gary Bennett.

Pratt, 34, is hitting .162 this season with two homers and four RBIs in 80 at-bats. His best moment with the Mets came two years ago, when he hit a series-winning homer against Arizona in the first round of the NL playoffs.

Bennett, 29, hit .213 with one homer and six RBIs in 75 at-bats.

I was very down on Todd Pratt. And am not the least bit sad to see him go. I am not going to miss his Strikeouts 9 out of 10 at bats and his .160 Average. But whats the point of getting an even Bigger Scrub!!
Way to go Phillips!

And how much you want to bet, that Todd Pratt will get a Game Winning Hit in one of these games this weekend at Shea against the Phillies.

This sucks. Tank was a great catcher. I would rather see him starting behind the plate than Piazza.

Your being sarcastic right Froy?

I certainly hope so.

Sure Todd Pratt was responsible for one of the greatest moments in Met History, but I dont think he has gotten a hit since.

Great reference. You gotta love a guy who could throw the ball into center field on his knees but absolutly COULD NOT throw the ball back to the pitcher.

As for Tank, he was good guy and I will miss him. Its really too bad he just wasnt producing.

I say for this year, save money and dont make any more really piontless trades. Now I'm no expert (so feel free to criticize), but next year:
Ditch Zeile, force Piazza to First by any means necessary, buy Pudge, buy Chan Ho, buy Giambi. I dont know the legistics of all of this but I think they would be good moves.

Dumb question. Where would you play Giambi if you move Piazza to first? You going to DH him or something?

Any one who watches any amount of Met games knows how important Tank was to that team. I hate to see him go, and will still wear my #7 at Shea...

I guess they traded him to get cheaper and younger, and at the same time give them minor league options which neither Pratt nor Wilson had. Sad to see him go though. Hope Johnny Estrada breaks a leg and Pratt gets to start for the Phils. He deserves it.

Just another observation of insanity.

The real revelation brought out by this thread is the fact that
Steve Phillips' cell phone must actually work.

Todd Pratt picking up Ventura as he rounded first was grea

The guy was awful this year granted... but do you have any idea how hard it is to break out of a slump when you get an at bat every 5 days while playing with bone chips in your elbow? Not easy.

And do good guys win games? Actually they do... the Mets are a very emotional team... probably the most in baseball, and they fed off of energy like Pratt's. If you don't believe that, you've never played team sports.

pratt sucked this year but he has power they could have gotten more for him but what can u expect from SP..... i just hope they make atleast some decent trades... frigging back up catcher was not a necesity. pitching & out field are. get rid of trashel he had a few good starts recently he might have some trade value like last year when he went to toronto he sucked then 2. just need the right team to unload him. how bout SD ... i just hope all goes well with the deadline a week away...

Granted I haven't watched much of the Mets this year. But he's JUST a backup catcher. Last I checked, they do not make or break a team.

Well obviously they Mets are seriously flawed... We all know what they need, and that Pratt doesnt make or break a team...

I was just pointing out that he was a team leader, always the first off that dugout step to congratulate or to back his teamates... the first to stick up for his teamates in the medai and on the field, and the only one with balls enough to say that this years team needs help.

Just another observation of insanity.

Good point. Now that I think about, that really DOESN'T make sense. For some reason I was thinking Giambi could play outfield. My bad.
