I dont have an official story yet, but according to WFAN, Benny Agbyani has been claimed off waivers by the Padres. Guess the Mets really want to clean house.

tequila, go sit back down and watch the yanks ya tool ;)
why the fuck did they have benny on waivers to begin with?? oh well, this season's been long over, i guess no one cares about miracle comebacks anymore (see 69 mets (?) who came back in august to win the pennant). nowadays it's all about the fucking buck and "waiting till next year." why not just go out and play your hardest trying to do something good the last half of the season? oh well. the isles did it a few years ago. granted, they didn't make the playoffs, but their second half of 1999-2000 was better than a lot of teams and they spoiled a lot of teams' chances with key wins. that's what the mets should concentrate on, and build for next year, not dump everyone now.

Not a good move by the mest to let this guy go. If it is true its very stupid and i hope he comes back as a PAdre and shoves it in Phillips and the Mets orginizations faces. I mean we all thought Carl Everret sucked when he was in NY but he left and now hes fuckin awsome. Jus another in the line of idiot moves by the Mets this year.

jj, unfortunately i think their worst move of the year was attending opening day and deciding to play this season (on second thought, actually they HAVEN'T decided to play at any point this season, so that might be the worst decision).

The Teams still have to work out a deal. So the Mets will get something back for him, but it probably wont be much

i dont understand why everyone hates this move. This guy was atrocious in the outfield, i still remember when he threw the ball in the stands with 2 outs. He is an average hitter, and it gets one of our nonproductive OF's out of here. Good move in my view.

Benny still receives a lot of praise from the Shea faithful and is a fan favorite of many Mets fans. Sid Rosenberg, ironically enough, is bashing Benny on the FAN, right now.

While he did hand the kid the ball in the regular season against SF last year it was a game they won, and who can forget when he won the playoff game?

Benny's was also on Stern last year, hoo hoo hoo, predicting the Mets would win in five over the Yankees.

Edit -- does anyone know how long teams have to deal after a claim on waivers?

They got rid of Carl Everet because he beat his wife and kid, not because of his lack of talent. Agbayani sucks . *(sung to goody to shoes by Adam Ant)* Can't run can't throw, what do you do. Can't hit, can't field, what do you do.

I shucked it, and I shucked it, and I shucked it, i'm quite the mother shucker!

Good luck to him. The Mets have a long way to go. At least they look like they are going to make some meaningfull moves for next year. Unfortunately, they stood pat pretty much after last year, and didn't really get in the game this year. I just hope it wont take too long to rebuild. I even heard they put Piazza up to see what the market would bear. It might be a sad endto the season if that happens.

Agbyani sucks, plain and simple. He's just a big klump out there. Plus they are just going to retool the entire team with free agents and such next year. Move out the crap now so it's less to worry about in the off season. Too bad Edgardo is atrocious since they could have gotten something good for him before the season (see Sheffield, Gary). I guess that's what makes the Mets the Mets.

At times benny had some heart, but it's time to cut the fat and move on.

Insider: Agbayani to NL West?

The Mets, despite pronouncements to the contrary in New York, are trying to work out a deal that would send outfielder Benny Agbayani to San Diego or San Francisco, a league source tells Insider. San Diego showed interest in Agbayani (.285 Avg./.360 OBP/.407 Slg.) prior to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, but nothing materialized. Then, as a matter of course, the Mets placed Agbayani, along with many other veterans, on waivers. Thus far, only Agbayani has been claimed. From that point, the Mets have 48 hours to either rescind the waiver request, give up the player or arrange a trade. New York, which was not willing to part with Agbayani for the waiver price alone, is now trying to work out a trade.

At least he is getting closer and closer to Hawaii, so when he gets dumped by the Padres or Giants, he doesn't have as far to fly home.

Can't the Mets trade the Yanks Al Leiter for Ted Lilly and make the fire sale complete. He would make a great 3rd or 4th starter.

Guess what??? Saw an article in the star ledger...Benny's staying with the Mets for the rest of the year. That made no sense by Phillips. The Giants and Padres wanted him, and all Philips had to do was find a reasonable trade, and he ended up offering agbyani for some golden prospects. Goddamn it Phillips, do your job.
