According to espn.com, Santana Moss had surgery today and doctors say he will be out 3-4 months instead of 3-4 weeks. I think this is a devestating blow to the Jets as they prepare for the season. Im not a Jets fan, but I feel bad for them, it seems every year they get hit with the injury bug.

Moss reportedly could miss more time

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESPN.com news services

The New York Jets could be without top draft pick Santana Moss for up to 12 weeks after the receiver underwent knee surgery Saturday morning.

Moss' family was told by doctors Saturday that he could miss 8 to 12 weeks, ESPN's Armando Salguero reports. Jets coach Herman Edwards said Friday that Moss, the 16th overall pick out of the University of Miami, would be sidelined three to four weeks after tearing cartilage in his left knee.

"When they go in with the scope, you don't know," Edwards said. "Hopefully, if it is what everyone perceives it to be, and it shouldn't be that long, 3-to-4 weeks. If it's something worse, then it could be longer."

Moss underwent surgery at HealthSouth Doctors' Hospital in Coral Gables, Fla., to repair the lateral miniscus on his left knee. The surgery was performed by Dr. John Uribe, the University of Miami team doctor. The hospital itself did not release any information about how much time Moss will miss.

Frank Ramos of the Jets public relations office said that Edwards expects Moss to be in camp on Long Island next week to begin rehab. Their timetable for his recovery hasn't changed until they meet with him.

Moss, with lightning-quick moves, was hurt Wednesday night during practice on the artificial turf at Hofstra Stadium when the Jets staged "Family Night."

He experienced soreness on Thursday but attended a special teams session, although he didn't practice. When the soreness continued, he underwent an MRI exam, which revealed the injury.

Moss chose to have Uribe operate rather than use one of the Jets' doctors. He is allowed to make that choice under the NFL collective bargaining agreement.

"When you are getting surgery for the first time, you'd like to know the guy, have a personal rapport with him," Edwards said.

Moss has known Uribe since Moss was in high school.

Moss, who runs a 4.31 40, was the highlight of the Jets' early workouts. Nearly every time he touched the ball, there was a buzz in the crowd and most of this teammates eagerly watched. Moss broke several long plays as a receiver and a kick returner -- a position where the Jets struggled last year.

"It's harder as a rookie when you get hurt," said veteran cornerback Aaron Glenn, who will assume some of the punt return duties until Moss returns. "He wants that first taste of preseason ball and it's good for rookies to go through it. He doesn't act like a rookie. It's like he's been around for a while, and that's a good trademark."

Moss was heavily involved in passing patterns and running reverses during practices. Edwards and offensive coordinator Paul Hackett expect him to be an integral part of the new West Coast offense.

The injury was the second to a key player this week. Nose tackle Jason Ferguson has a tear in his right rotator cuff and most likely will be sidelined until October. Ferguson might need surgery, which would end his season before it ever began. But that won't be determined for three weeks.

LMFAO!!! Very funny Lent, but very true, although i dont think Moss was gonna be the difference between playoffs or no playoffs. It would have been worse if Chrebet was hurt instead.

LMAO Lent. But that doesnt nessesarly mean its completly over for the Jets. They were gonna use Moss as a Kick Returner and 3rd Down Back. Now that hes out who do they have left as a WR?

Well, they have a new guy from Minnesota, Hatchette who backed up Randy Moss and Cris Carter, they have Coles, and they have Chrebet. Thats about it though, since they also lost Dedric Ward to the Dolphins.

I was reading I think the daily news and they said he might be out for up 2 two months and maybe play on opening day. Who knows. I don't think that source is credible.

Well I guess nobody knows for sure. I think it will be 3 months, but the source was espn.com, and they are usually right on the mark with their info. But, what the hell do i know?? lol. The fact is that he is hurt and it is not good because he needs this practice time to learn the plays.

I don't think it will be a huge loss for the Jets in terms of this season since he wasn't going to be a big part of the time this year. It might delay his long term progress so hopefully for his sake he gets to get some gametime in this year. And I would imagine that Laverneous Coles will get more receptions as a result of this. Provided of course he doesn't go and hang out with Peter Warrick at Dilliards.

Uni, hopefully they will move out of that dump and go to Jets Stadium on the west side in 2008. I know Woody will make it happen.

Shit, f-the meadowlands and go back to shea once the mets leave.

It was confirmed in the Star Ledger that Moss will be back by Week 4...not oo bad, but weeks 4-9 will probably be his summer training camp.

hahaha. Jets. Much like their loser cousins, the mets. They should put them back in shea with the mets and blow the whole thing up. I saw a guy wearing a moss jersey at a mets/yankees game months ago, funny stuff.

This guy was going to save the Jets, just like Keyshawn...hahaha

Cheer up jets fans, I'm telling you Hatchette was the bigger addition. He is a quality WR..

They'll be fine. Moss would and still will be a great addition to the special teams and another threat on offense. They still have Coles who now has a year experience, Vinny is a year removed from the injury, Abraham is back and they picked up Robinson which makes their D-Backs very very good. I see them making a lot of noise this year and getting at least 10 wins. But it is the Jets so I will also predict another big injury which will fuck up the season and they'll end with 7 wins. Oh well at least football is finally back!!

I was just reading in the Star-Ledger that the Jets are trying to find a long-term replacement for Moss so they're bringing in David Palmer (former Vikings PR/RB) and Darrien Gordon (former Raiders PR/CB) today for a tryout. Edwards is saying that he wants to give some of the younger players a chance so they may wait until after Saturday's game to make any decisions. Whatever the case is, it's not a huge deal that the Jets are losing Moss as a WR but they do really need a good PR. But like Gang Green said before, Laveranues Coles is going to be taking Moss' place as a receiver anyway so the Jets shouldn't be at too much of a disadvantage because of Moss' injury.
