Ok, the credit goes to espn for this question. They are asking a question of what the most memorable comeback ever is. I wanna know what everyone else thinks here. If you want to add a choice, you can...here are the selections:

What was the most memorable single-event comeback?
'93: Bills top Oilers (down 32 in 3rd)
'01: Indians top M's (down 12 in 7th)
'00: Lakers top Blazers (down 15 in 4th)
'84: Maryland tops Miami (down 31-0 at half)
'00: Tiger at Pebble (down 8 with 9 to play)

My answer: i think the Bills vs Oilers game in 93 was the most memorable comeback ive ever seen, with the Indian game last night as a close 2nd. The Bills game was unbelievable, I still remember where i was when i watched that, hell i still remember that it was snowing outside that afternoon while the game was going on. It was awesome indeed.

I forgot if this happened last year or the year before, i think it was '99, but the Mets game toward the end of the year when they scored 8 runs in the 7th against Maddux and the Braves capped off by Piazza's home run was pretty memorable for me. Not as much as the Bills game, but pretty close.

I agree. That was a great game. I still get chills, and not just from the Efing cold. But that M's game was crazy. I caught the end of it. Bullpen did a good job eh?

As a personal favorite comeback momemnt had to be Yankess vs. Braves 96 world series. Wohlers vs. Leyritz. Pops the homer left field, yanks comeback to win it, that was freaking great.

for just an individual game, i dunno, probably the bills game. but if you go by series, it has to be a tie between the 42 Maple Leafs and the 75 Islanders. Both came back from 3-0 series deficits to win in 7 games, something that has never been accomplished in baseball or basketball. In fact, i think the two bb's have never seen a 3-1 lead overcome.

all led by this guy. "Chico! Chico!"

EDIT: and how fitting is it that i post an isles pic on post #1940! ;) :)

Why? Do u work for them or something? j/k. I couldve thought of the question myself eventually, i probably couldntve gotten the years for some of them.

Oh i cant believe i forgot this comeback...but how bout when the Giants were down 19-3 in the Super Bowl against the Bills and won 20-19, the closest Super Bowl ever?? That was pretty damn memorable for me too, probably either tied with the Bills game or just a cut below it.

if you want some hockey games, there's two kings games that stand out far above any others:
the miracle on manchester - down 5-0 to the oilers, i believe in the third period, and came back to win 6-5 (not sure if it was regulation or ot)
the stunner at staples (not my nicknames, don't worry) - down 3-0 with 7 mins left in the third, scored the tying goal w/ 51 seconds left in regulation (bryan smolinski), then won it in the first ot.
i'd personally think the first one was bigger, since the deficit was greater, but the second one had more pressure, being so late in the game.

well, if you want hockey games, how bout in these past playoffs when the Edmonton Oilers came back from 2 goals down in the final minute to tie in the playoffs against i think the Stars. I know they lost, but hey, i thought id bring it up.

Nobody cares about hockey comebacks anyway ;)

Here are a couple of comebacks by New York teams that haven't been mentioned. They may not deserve it as far as how memorable they are but how amazingly rare these comebacks are.

---------------
The Jets score their 40th point on a 40 yd. field goal by John Hall as they complete the second largest comeback in Monday Night Football History in a 40-37 win in amazing fashion. They outscore the Miami Dolphins 33-7 in the final 20:36 of that overtime game that lasted 4:10 minutes. Marcus Coleman became only the second player in record to have two interceptions in overtime.

The Yankees became the first AL team in over 50 years to come back from a multiple run defecit in the ninth inning to tie a game, and a multiple run defecit in extra innings to win a game as they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 9-8 in 10 Innings. The New York Yankees rallied for five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and three more in the 10th. The rally was the biggest after eight innings by the Yankees since May 18, 1976 in Cleveland.

edit-- And the game the Mets scored 10 runs in the eighth inning on fireworks night last year to beat Atlanta 11-8.
---------------

Both were amazing games, neither of them were playoff games so there value is diminished somewhat, but it does not make them any less historical. The Mariners bullpen which is touted as the best in baseball could not hold a lead, that is just one of the reasons why Sports is just so effin great.

This game was last year, June 30, 2000. And it was not against Greg Maddux, it was against the Atlanta Bullpen in a game started by Kevin Milwood. Terry Mulholland is the one who gave up the Homerun to Piazza to give the Mets the lead. Also it was the 8th Inning not the 7th Inning and the Mets scored 10 runs not 8. They were trailing 8-1 and won the game 11-8

Also an Honorable Mention to the Mets comeback win against the Yankees this year in the Sunday Night Game at Shea. Down 7-2 in the 8th which was capped off by another Mike Piazza Homerun.

The Midnight Miracle for the Jets was definetly another great comeback.

But the Bills comeback against the Oilers was the Greatest Comeback in Sports History because it was in a game of the greatest importance of any of the other major comebacks. Also it propelled the Bills into another Super Bowl appearance.

If your talking about the NHL Playoffs last year, The Oilers comeback against the Stars in Game 3 wasnt that great. Because they came back from 2 goals in the last minute but lost in Overtime and lost the Series. The Best Comeback of the Playoffs was the Kings over the Redwings in Game 4, down 3-0 with 5 minutes left, they tied it up and won it in Overtime, and went on to pull off the upset in the series.

Biggest combacks for one team, always equals biggest choke for the other team. so by saying biggest combacks in here, you are also giving your biggest chokes.

1. Bills vs Oilers '93 Playoffs - I will never forget where i was during that game.

2. Maple Leafs vs Red Wings '42 Stanley Cup - Down three games to none and you come back and win? Impossable, but they did it

3. Jets vs Dolphins '00 MNF - i turned it off at the half, turned on the radio and listend to it as i was drawing something, and as i listend closer and closer, i couldn't believe it. i wound up turning the tv on and just turning the sound down..the radio call was alot better.

4. Devils vs Flyers '00 Eastern Confrence Finals - This series means more to me than anything the Devils ever did save the 1995 Stanly Cup.

5. Giants vs Bills Super Bowl XXV - I'm suprised only one person posted this. I was 9 and just depressed..it looked like it just wasn't gonna happen, after all, we had gotten to the Super Bowl on the leg of Matt Bahr (5 fg's in the NFC title game) and the Bills dismantled the Raiders (53 - 3 {not sure} in the AFC title game). Yet we cane back, and took the lead, but the Bils were in field goal range and Norwood was a excellent kicker. It shouldn't have happened, the Giants were supposed to lose that game, yet somehow, some way, Norwood hooked it, and we won the best Super Bowl ever played.

1972 -- Knicks score the final 19 points to beat Milwaukee 87-86. Only a regular season game but still pretty impressive, and it was before the three pointer.

what about that time that reggie miller scored 7 points in the final 30 seconds to beat the knicks a few years ago in the playoffs? i forgot when that was exactly, but i remember seeing it and just being amazed at how miller took over the way he did.

That was Game 1 in 1995. A Series that Indiana eventually won in 7 games on the missed Patrick Ewing finger roll. This is a series and that moment in particular is one I would like to forget.

This may be classified more as upsets rather than comebacks but some great college basketball finals notably:NC State in 1983, Villanova in 1986; Indiana in 1987;Kansas in 1988 These were all great games and who can forget Jordan in 1982.

Those two baseball games Cleveland/Seattle and Texas and Detroit were amazing too.
