Lewis tears ACL in left knee

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Associated Press

WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens running back Jamal Lewis tore a ligament in his left knee Wednesday and is possibly out for the season.

Lewis, who left the field with trainer Bill Tessendorf during the morning practice, tore the anterior cruciate ligament and sprained the medial collateral ligament, team spokeswoman Francine Lubera said.

The injury was first thought to be a bruise, but the injury was discovered during an MRI on Wednesday evening, Lubera said.

Lewis was a key player in the Ravens' Super Bowl championship run last season, gaining 1,364 yards and scoring six touchdowns as a rookie.

WOW!!! That is a huge blow to the Ravens, not that i care cause they kicked the Giants' ass which did not make me happy. It sucks for this guy cause he was going to have a breakout year this year.

On another note, thank god my fantasy football trade to acquire him was rejected. phew.

look really closely at the ravens offense now...dont they look like the chiefs of last year? I know there are different players, but there is Grbac, a big time TE, 1 good receiver (Jermaine Lewis), and no running game. And we saw how good the Chiefs did last year with no offense.

The ravens defense will be on the field too much to repeat their performance they had last year.

They had enough trouble scoring TD's as it was last year, forget it now.

Wow....being a Tennessee Titan fan this is HUGE! The Raven offense is one-dimensional now. Grbac will be a sitting duck because the Ravens have no depth at running back. And with Shannon Sharpe not getting younger, and the two starting receivers (Quadry Ismail and Travis Taylor) leaving much to be desired, it might be a long season for the Super Bowl champs. Only good thing out of this is getting to see that arrogant big mouth Brain Billick explain why his team sucks week after week this season. He can't expect the defense to pull out every game. They were overworked last year and the year before, and this will eventually take a toll on the defensive players bodies. Look for the Ravens to fade late in the year and maybe even miss the playoffs.

With the amount of very good teams in the AFC, i would not be shocked if they missed the playoffs. However, i dont think that this will destroy them totally. I dont think it will happen, but the defense could be just as good as last year. Plus, espn is saying that they might get either Ahman Green or Dorsey Levens from Green Bay, which is not a bad replacement.
