Well he didnt get knocked out but Holyfield got his ass whipped. Johnny Ruiz showed a lot of strength and courage and even knocked holyfield on his ass in the 11th. Holy didnt know which way was up after that.

Evander also fought one of the dirtiest fights i ever seen from him and thats saying something. Low Blows, Elbows, Head Butts, Forearms etc etc.

Ohh yeah and ofcourse Holyfield says he won the fight. Evander gave little respect to ruiz which was disgusting. Plus jim grey once again with a bad comment. this is the guy who asked pete rose if he gambled at the all century celebration. he called ruiz a "sparring partner" for a prime holyfield.

The final score totals from what i remember were

116-111, 114-111, 116-110

i had it for ruiz as well 114-113 but i forgot to deduct the points for the knock down and the low blow so in fact i had it 114-111 as well.

I had it 114-112 Ruiz.

Ruiz controlled it early. Evander controlled the middle and Ruiz controlled the end. It was amazing that Holyfield was even able to survive the 11th round after getting knocked down in the First Minute. He held on for his life. That point deduction and the 11th round is what did in Holyfield. I actully had it 6 rounds apiece. But a point off for the Low Blow and a 10-8 Round in the 11th.

There are so many titles in boxing it's not even funny. How can some of these lesser belts even be taken seriously when they are held by guys who don't deserve to even be in a main event, let alone a title fight.

sean is correct the wbc, wba and IBF are the three main belts.

To be considered "undisputed" heavyweight champ you must have all 3 belts.

A quick rundown goes like this.

The IBF is the youngest of the sanctioning bodies. The wba is the oldest of the belts.

Tyson unified the belts in 1987 and douglas won the belts in 1990 then lost them to holyfield and then holyfield los them to bowe. Bowe then broke up the belts when he refused to fight lennox lewis and on national television dumped the IBF belt in a garbage can. It wasn't until last year when lewis beat holyfield after holy beat tyson and michael moorer to get the wba and ibf belts that finally they we're once again united. Then late last year lewis was stripped of the wba belt after his refusal to fight john ruiz instead he wanted the more powerful and bigger fight of David Tua and Michael Grant.

Then Holyfield won the vacant wba belt in his 1st ruiz fight. Now last night ruiz won the wba belt from holyfield.

So as of now Ruiz has the wba belt.
and Lewis has the wbc and ibf belts.

But today it's mostly the best fighter of the division who is considered champion. Like shane mosley and felix trinidad etc etc.

Roy Jones is the only "undisputed champion" in any division at light heavyweight.

whew!!!!

They should go back to one belt per division and 8 divisions. Now they have over25 divisions with so many belts no one can count. There are an estimated over 250 championship belts out there.

One of the most ridiculous ones i heard recently was the NABF trans atlantic intercontinental heavyweight champion.

And besides I'd rather go to the zoo or watch the discovery channel to watch monkeys fight anyway.

hey i understand to each his own. I personally don't like hockey much.

But i always viewed boxing at it's heart as the purest form of sport. No paddings no relief no stretches nothing. Two guys in shorts and gloves just two men. One on One to see who is the best. The corruption and the black eye of crime and the recent fiascos have blackened the sport. But to watch a great technical fight or a bloodfest is pure enjoyment to me. To watch one man mentally breakdown his opponent or physically batter him is a great thing.

the other associations should be disbanded, with only the WBA as "THE" championship.

Heavyweight
Light Heavyweight
Middleweight
Cruiserweight
Lightweight
Featherweight

I used to really like boxing too. Now it seems the corruption in rankings, coupled with some fights I saw called way off the mark, and the inability to get the best fights together, and pay-per-view, etc... You get the point. I just lost it. Showtime vs HBO fighters, Tuesday night fights, sat night fights, yada yada yada. I just can't enjoy it because it lost the purity of one on one, best man left standing, I used to feel during Suger Ray Leonard era. Maybe someday, when they bust a few more of these setup men. Wasn't it the head of IBF that just got busted? Ranking fixing or something? anyway, Later Daze.
