Back to School Shopping - Silera - 08-19-2003

I'm just looking through Old Navy to figure out how much I'll have to spend to send my kids off into the new school year. I'm looking to spend about $175 for each of them with new clothes, sneakers, boots, and school supplies.

I started to feel bad knowing that I would never be able to get them Jordans or anything like that, then I realized, my kids are white. They don't need expensive clothes to keep them from looking poor. That's pretty much the only reason I can see for any parent to spend more than $40 on a pair of sneakers that the kid won't wear after six months.

I've seen kids my kids age (6 & 8) wearing gold and leather jackets to school. I know that their parents don't make more money than I do, they just have different goals. They want to pretend they're not broke and poor while living in the projects. I'd like to save as much as possible and eventually move the fuck out.

Discuss.

They're also going to be walking home with no jacket and a bloody nose while crying uncontrollably.

label-heavy clothes are so tacky. i dont think you need to spend alot of money to look cool. heck, most of the stuff i wear i get from thrift stores. i'm not sure if its as easy to find clothes for kids there or not, but try places like Century 21 near the former WTC.

Stick to it.

You definitely are looking it things in the right manner IMO. I don't have any kids but I can sense good parenting when I see it.

And Old Navy is better than K-Mart so your kids shouldn't get taunted at all.
(and if they do, I'm sure you already taught them on how to whoop someones' ass...verbally at least. Wink )

and one last thing:

I'm 27 and I STILL refuse to spend more than $60-$65 on sneakers. PFFFT. $100+ sneakers, get dah fuck outta here with that bullshit.

The fact you're so sexy also helps.

You're doing the right thing, Silera. I don't have kids either but when I do I will do my best to provide for them. The money you save now will pay biugger dividends in the future. And somewhere along the way, your kids will thank you for it.

Your kid's friends won't care if they're wearing brown bags as long as you let them visit your house once puberty kicks in.

maybe if your boyfriend put some of the beer money into buying for your waifs,
they'd be better dressed.

A six pack costs more than her wardrobe.
