I love my woodfloor Part 2 - Sloats - 05-09-2003 AKA Grumpy's household tips AKA Finally a topic BrokenJaw can post in. Well, the floor is down on the second floor of the house. I am happy and resentful, but that doesn't matter now. We have a closet in the main bedroom that runs the width of the room. The previous owners put two sets of double doors into the closet. I don't like that. There is absolutely no utility of the sides of the closet. You are only able to use the back wall (dimension around 12' x 4'). So, what I propose to do is to put a single door where the double doors were. The biggest problem? The woodfloor reduces the clearance. This could also be a combination of using a standard door where a folding door was. Basically I have a 80.5" clearance where I need 82.5" per door instructions. And of course I need to bring in the framing in from the sides. Well, I pulled down the piece of gypsumboard that was above the previous door and I saw (happily) that the header was 4 pieces of 2x4 and not a single piece with tiny bracket pieces holding it to the ceiling. What I propose is that I cut the bottom 2x4 (the second bottom piece clears at 82.5") to the the size of the frame (32.5) plus room for 2 studs that would be the frame. Cut a small piece for the floor and 2 verticle pieces that would fit between the small new floor piece and the old header (one that was cut). I would then put one against the old frame and put the other one inside the new frame. What's your thoughts? I love my woodfloor Part 2 - SLASH - 05-09-2003 tl;dr
