INTROSPECTIVE TIME: Are You Happy? - GreasyItalianPrincess - 06-25-2003

Life's a bit of a rollercoaster...lots of up and downs. What makes one appreciate more is hitting rock bottom, where the up and downs now pale in comparison.

As much as sometimes these days are up and downs in terms of social, relations, family and work...I must say, that I am happy, even though I feel I have further to go in my goals, dreams, hopes and wishes. I fear ever going back to that place of hopelessness and unhappiness, which I was locked in 2 years ago...however, there is a knowledge that won't happen for two reasons...

1. I was able to break out of that, and would not let myself remain there

2. My self-knowledge and self-awareness is heightened exponentially since those days, that I can catch myself easily.

And though sometimes I can get frustrated on not achieving every goal, I know that every day I am always moving forward, even if one day it is slow as molasses, and the next, like a rocket. And, I think, moving forward, moving to where I want to go...in that motion is what life is all about. Not always about our goal, but our journey to get there. The quicker we accept this, the better off we'll be.

In my humble opinion, anyway.

Are you happy? And if you aren't, what plans or things will you do to make sure that you are moving forward.

Two questions.

Why you gonna go and make me get all introspective and shit?

How am I not to be confused by the two threads with the similar titles?

*EDIT*

Now that that is cleared up. I for one have always been happy, even though I grew up very poor and didnt have an exactly pleasant childhood, I always had the awareness to know it could be a lot worse. My parent was exactly a great one, I basically raised myself, my other parent a drunk that floated in and out of prison. BUT, I have both eyes, ears, etc etc. Im healthy, Im surrounded by people that love me, in their own warped way. Im not homeless. I have a job. Im not walking to work. There are lots of things to be happy about if you think about all you HAVE instead of everything you DONT.

I am a miserable fuck who is tired of all of this work shit. Because I am a man, I will work until I die. Because I am a man, I have to clean up the dog shit and unplug the toliets. Because I am a man, I have to kill the family pet when s/he becomes to sick to live.

A slave is not afraid of death. Death is the only exit from obligation.

You could be a single mom and do all that shit, so don't pull the "because I am a man" garbage.

I'm making a conscious effort to be happy. I don't want to go on meds for my depression, so I'm just trying my hardest to look for the positive in everything. I didn't realize that h.s. graduation would leave me so bereft of purpose. Or something.

I know that me trying at all is a good sign b/c I would normally just sort of fold up and beat up on myself until something distracted me. Maybe I'm growing up...?

I think Denis Leary said it best when he said "LIFE SUCKS, GET A FUCKING HELMET O.K.?"

Besides, it only gets worse as you get older....:fire:
