Communist governments are restrictive and forceful only because it's human nature to be self-interested. If everyone were on the same page, and had the same beliefs about what is moral and best for the common good, there wouldn't be a need for these restrictions at all.

Like I said, I'm not a trekkie so I'm probably way off base, but it just sounds like what you described (no one is rich or poor...the driver for the society was to "better themselves morally."...So work would be a satifaction, rather than earning money.) is an idealized view of communism. I'm not saying that's a bad thing or a good thing.
