Thank you.

I think it makes delicious use of irony because, although naked and destitute, he still clings to his blind hatred and ignorance as if to wear it as a cloak, to shield him from a world he knows is slipping away.

I also like it because I don't care for coloreds much.

Could it be that the word in the sign is a derivation of the word negro and is obviously mispelled making WS not too well spoken? A proper spelling should be negre, but it's not like the South, the origin of the word, is well known for their understanding nor proper usage of the English language.

The word itself is correct by virtue of common usage. Sort of like people using the term "band-aid" instead of bandage. It's techincally incorrect, but that's about it.
