I think they're going with the "Batman: Year One" comic as their inspiration this time. And besides, even Burton fucked up the origin in the first Batman (Jack Napier, aka Joker, was not the low-level thug who killed Wayne's parents).

So it becomes a clean slate, and frankly, the franchise needs it. Badly.
