Quote:Moore claims that Bush spent 42% of his first 8 months on vacation! Moore says this comes from the Washington Post. No such article or reporting exists.

From the article you linked to:

Quote:That means Bush has spent 42 percent of his term so far at one of his three leisure destinations.

So...who's a liar again?

Hi, my name is EffinC. I cut and paste arguments without even reading them beforehand.

That said, it's kind of weak math to count weekends as "vacation" given that it's 28% of the time, and to say that any time he's not in Washington DC, he's "on vacation". I mean, come on. Like Clinton didn't play golf and vacation?

And of course he hasn't given speeches, everyone knows he's a poor speaker. Would you want to remind everyone of that fact? Again, doesn't mean that he's not doing any work.

Just a comparison:

Dubya: 250 days in his first 18 months, 42%

Clinton: 152 days in 8 years, 5%
GHW Bush: 543 days in 4 years, 37%
Reagan: 335 days in 8 years, 11%
Carter: 79 days in 4 years, 5%

But "not being in Washington" doesn't mean "on vacation"

The guy had summits with heads of state in Camp David et al. Are they counting the times he was in NYC as "vacation", or the times he went to the mideast?

I don't think they're comparing apples to apples.

and speaking of "vacation", what has Kerry voted in like 10% of the votes in the senate this year? WTF is that about?

Of course not. Just time spent at Camp David, Crawford, or Kennebunkport. I'm sure some of the vacation time is devoted to official business or whatever, but think about it - in barely 18 months, George W. Bush took more days off than Clinton and Jimmy Carter did in a combined twelve years. It doesn't look good.

No, it doesn't. But I like to work from home rather than going into the office. Maybe he likes to work from a differnet home.

maybe they don't let him wear his cowboy hat in the whitehouse.

Like a CEO, the president doesn't actually DO anything. It doesn't matter where he is, but I understand that it makes it look like he doesn't do shit.

I would be curious to see exactly how they are defining "vacation" for each of the presidents, and what official business may have been done during that time.

Actually, the vacation info doesn't come from a "they", it's all from one guy: White House Reporter Mark Knoller. The guy basically follows the president around everywhere he goes and takes notes on all their activities...like how much time, down to the minute, Bill Clinton spent playing golf, what his average scores were, etc. I'd recommend Googling his name and reading some of his findings, it's pretty interesting (if trivial), and there don't seem to be any biases in his work.
