FU TO CLUELESS PARENTS
#11
It's not gonna pass...at least I don't think so.

He's to the point where he's run his mouth so much and so often he has no friends. As I said earlier, his grades are going to shit (especially reading) because he can't be bothered. He's doing everything in his power to push EVERYONE'S buttons (except Grandma and PopPop who think there's nothing at all wrong with him and get pissed at me for saying there is).

He'll stand in his room and scream for us to "Stay away! Don't hurt me!" when we're out in the garage smoking and not anywhere near him.

I've actually sunken to tape recording him, so I have proof should he ever make accusations that get ME in trouble.

Sorry MYLF, didn't mean to make this about my crap.

I agree with JimmyBlueEyes, a good swift kick in the ass always sets a kid straight. Only if they do somthing wrong, not just to hit them for nothing. A little fear of the parents never hurts. lol.

And if that doesn't work?

Ground him, make him stay in his room but take away any thing in his room hed have fun with, tv, video games etc; and only let him out when he has to use the bathroom, eat dinner, bathe etc.

lol if that doesnt work, then youre fucked until he grows out of it.

JJ's no help, he's a "good egg".

Unfortunately taking stuff away will probably hurt more than help, if it's not having any effect. If it was actually working, that would be a different story. Perhaps some sort of deal to reward good things instead? With all the shit taken away, it's easy.

I really know dick about parenting, though. I'm 23. All I know is, if you've got a clean slate to work with, raise a dork. My parents had relatively no trouble with me. Nothing major, anyway.

I've got friends with kids and I watch and learn along with taking lessons I learned from my parents on what to do and what not to do. But some of them have good ideas like take everything away and give him incentives to perform better.
I'm not quite there yet

Okay, the monster is gone for the weekend. His father got to hear first hand the shit he pulls.

Today I will be taking the remaining "fun" items out of his room, leaving him with just a bed, dresser, books and paper & pencils.

He's got a reward system in place. Each day that he doesn't get in trouble at school, he gets a "caught being good" card. When he gets 5 of them, I will buy him something for karate (the one thing he actually likes) for under $25.

At home, we're starting with bedtime. When he's in bed and quiet at the appointed time for a full week, I will make bedtime a 1/2 hour later until he's at his normal bedtime. In theory, that should only take 2 weeks, but he'll probably be a senior in high school with an 8:30 bedtime.

As far as a reward system for the other privileges, when he blows it, he blows it big, so I don't really have to worry about that.

And yes, JJ is a good egg.
