new law on sales of video games.

Law Bans Selling Violent Games to Kids
(AP) - Gov. Gary Locke signed a bill into law Tuesday that hits retailers with a $500 fine for selling or renting video games to children that depict violence against police. It's believed to be the first state law of its kind in the country, according to the bill's sponsor and the Interactive Digital Software Association, a trade group for video game manufacturers. Video game publishers promised an immediate legal challenge on free-speech grounds to the law, which applies to children under 17.

i wonder what game their talking about

also it's hard enough to check ids for alcohol and cigarettes. now you not only have to know how old people who buy video games are But it's specific to cops so you have to know what games have violence directed towards cops which could be rated teen. I can't see how this law passed, it's only going to get a shitload of people fired but not keep the games out of kids hands. Plus violent video games have never been proven to cause violent behavior so this law has no logical basis.

violent games are actually connected to violent behavior to those of low IQ, violent dispoistion, etc.

The games are:

etc.

i did an essay for psych on this. there has been experiments that correlate people that play video games and violence. All that means is that violent people play video games. They have never been able to prove that people get more violent when they play these games, there are too many other factors. so yes if the people are going to shoot someone they'll probably enjoy doing it in the game so they'll do it. but the vast majority of the people will not get more hostile, and atleast in my case are able to let out some aggression in an acceptable way.

Hey now, just remember that according to Congressional research, we're all still being made a violent society because of Doom.

Besides, if we're inside in front of our PCs and Playstations all day, who has time to go outside and kill?

Come on, you people should get a life already. Turn off the videogames, go outside, and realize that there's a whole world out there with plenty of people to kill.

If some kid is stupid enough to immate what he sees in a video game or on tv i blame the parents for not being there to tell this kid that you cant acctually do these things..everyone expects the rest of the world to raise their kids...no assholes its your job

So, are they going to banish the Jackass movie? There has been a handful of stupid kids that have either injured themselves or killed themselves by imitating that movie/show.

I just don't get it. The government needs to stop being a parent and let the parents, parent.

Unfortunately that's the problem.... the parents don't want to parent. I mean, come on, kids don't even learn right from wrong anymore. They do something bad, they get a "time out".... what the fuck is THAT? They have to sit and think about what they did? Where was this shit when I was a kid?

And if the kids DOES turn out to do funky shit.... then the parents wouldn't dare blame, say, THEMSELVES.... no, it must be the government's fault, they allow violence on TV, in games, in movies..... it's not MY fault that my kid saw all that shit....

So really, the government isn't as much to blame as the stupid assholes who don't know how to control their own children, then protest the government for changes in laws to make it all better, further neglecting their kids with the time they spend on it.

Sick fuckin country.
