ok this is what i want to do
i currently have a dlink wireless router, it works fine, don't get the strongest single in my living room but whatever
what i want to do get another access point to extend/boost that signal, but i also want the access point to have ethernet capability so i can wire stuff to that (my xbox basically) and then have it connect to the network that way. i just want to make sure this is all possible
i draw it out just in case i didn't make sense. the sort of curvy line representes the wireless connection

dont they sell repeaters, or signal boosters for that?

I dunno about a WAP with ports tho - that kinda defeats the purpose since the WAP is supposed to add wireless capability to a wired router.
i'm pretty sure i saw one with ports when looking the other day, i just want to make sure its possible and if theres anything special i'll have to do or something
make sure that you have a clean scuzzi. nothing will fuck that up faster than a dirty scuzzi.
if it has ports, then I guess it would work.

a good site for networking questions is http://www.practicallynetworked.com, maybe they can be more helpful than I can - I prefer wired to be honest, I don't trust anyone.
d link routers suck ass i will be replacing mine this week
yea it doesn't have the greatest range, thats my only real complaint with it
mine has great range when it stays connected
yea i recently have disconnects but i figured that was because it was close to being out of range. whenever i have excellent signal i never lose it

you update the firmware?
yes i am running the 2.5 i think
what model you have? i just have the 614+, no wireless g
yea my router has crapped out for no reason a few times recently. i blame you.
i have the 624 Xtream g wireless
Honestly, the best router on the market right now in terms of Range and Speed are the Pre-N routers available by Netgear and Belkin.

Pre-N is the next wave in wireless technology and it has 3 external and 4 internal antennas (total of 7) and gets 3 times the range that 802.11B/G get. Its about twice as expensive, but you would be paying the same price to get a router, then another access point.
theres so many fucking wireless networks in new york, i swear you dont even need a fucking router.
