And another thing, while I'm on my soapbox.

When the people of Iraq see pictures of Americans smiling in front of their dead brothers, what are they supposed to think? These are the glorious liberators? Or these are the evil occupiers?

What the fuck is the goal in Iraq if this shit is tolerated? Do we want them to like us?

The goal all along was to create a USA-friendly client-state that will sell us cheap oil and let us set up military bases in the region. Does this fucking help?
We've obviously altered our mission objectives severely.
any word on if these soliders were disciplined?
I think you are both overestimating how much oversight so few people can have over so many people. I think like most things in life the oversight occurs after something bad happens, not telling everyone beforehand, here are the 18,692 things you can't do.

How is anyone supposed to know people are taking pictures of dead people emailing them? The few people in their little unit or sub-unit may know they are taking pictures (which for all we know, may be normal protocol), but what they do with those pictures afterwards, how are officials supposed to know?
so, people in the government aren't able to find this stuff on the internet, but we're supposed to expect them to find clues and what not to stop terrorist?
they know this stuff is going on, but just like with the torture pictures they don't want to get out, they're going to pretend its not happening in hopes the fewest possible people here about it
then when it does get out they'll blame the people reporting it for helping the other sides cause
1) they shouldnt be doing it
2) the should be disciplined
3) their direct superiors should be disciplined

simple as that
yes, of course.

Nobody is debating that.

What I'm debating is the belief that somehow these superiors are expected to be on top of what every single soldier is doing every single waking moment of the day.
You seem to be stuck in this mindset that leaders sit in offices while troops do the dirty work. There are leaders, in charge of troops, when they take part in these various missions. THey are on the scene, they see troops taking pictures. In your world, all the leaders are wearing suits and ties jerking each other off next to coffee machine while the niggers and children are out snapping pictures of dead people.
No. In your world, each unit of each platoon has a whitehaired 55 year old from Texas in charge who has a direct line to Rumsfield and is in charge of every action that every soldier does.

If you are talking about the 22 year old seargeants who are in charge of the 20 year old privates as those "in charge" then I don't imagine they care what the people are taking pictures of or what they are doing with them afterwards.
i'd imagine reality lies somewhere in the middle, about 5000 miles from OAS.

not only are they responable for what they did everyone in that direct chain of command is responable. The laws are brutal and direct.
