ISIS/MELVINS Northsix, NY 6/19/02

Isis came on about an hour late--but it was definitely worth the wait! They’re a five piece band, 2 guitarists, bassist and keyboardist(!)/noise maker that create such a tremendously heavy wall of sound. They were really tight and LOUD, it was a spiritual music experience- my favorite bands are the ones whose set puts you on another planet, and I was hovering somewhere around Pluto. They have this playing one simple main riff and just taking it to another level...killer, heavy psychedelia and far from boring! Normally, I don’t like screaming vocals, either, but they were filled with such raw emotion that perfectly matched the music. I have to check out more of their stuff ASAP.

Next, my first Melvins experience, and I sure as hell wasn’t disappointed. They brought their A-game wearing mu-mus. They have such a great sound live, so much heavier than on their albums--- and I think during their set, they touched upon every style of music possible to play! (bonus: Dale played the gong at one point)

A decent pit got started, which for once didn't bother me, everyone was just so into the music, no one was out to hurt each other, they just all danced around like freaks Smile...well, the singer/guitarist from Isis may have possibly injured himself during the last song when he back-flipped off the stage and no one caught him. But that was just pretty funny...

The Melvins had no interaction with the audience, whichc is their style, I think they may have looked at us a couple times :-) ...but they did have a red sign (kinda like the audience “applause” sign at live tv tapings) that read “Melvins”…They never left the stage before the encore, just waited for the crowd to quiet down (which took like 10 minutes with all the cheering-- the crowd was so into this show!) before they kicked in with some more mind-blowing music. Before the encore, the red sign red "Thanks"

The Melvins kicked my ass!

This show fucking RAWKed! It's always great to go to a show with no expectations...and end up seeing one of the best shows I've ever seen. Don't miss it if you can!

Ow.

My whole body hurts after that show. Last time I was this sore after a show was the last Melvins show.

I totally can't believe how amazing ISIS was.

Everything Spit said about the show was spot on! :thumbs-up:

Just amazing.

AND I GET TO DO IT AGAIN TONIGHT!!!!!
just came from sugarcult at the vanderbuilt, with a slew of local Long Island bands opening. i got to meet brandon from Movielife, who was in the crowd, which was kinda cool though

sugarcult was good. nothing special, but good.

the only one of the locals that i liked was Tripside, who had a really cool sound. the rest of them for hte most part sucked.

overall, very meh. glad i didn't pay.
I would write a review of the ISIS/Melvins show last night. But I'm too fucking tired.

ISIS was a little better at Northsix I think, but the Melvins blew the roof off last night.

If you have the chance, check out some stuff from ISIS. They are really fucking good. Not everyone's cup of tea though.

And if you haven't listened to the Melvins yet, WHY THE FUCK HAVEN'T YOU???
Tom Petty at the Arts Center

One of the best shows I've ever seen...probably helped that we tailgated for 4 hours :toast: :fuggin: Plus it was free, my neighbor knocked on my door with extra tix, which we took to the show and sold for $$$ :-)

The Heartbreakers pulled out some amazing jams...new stuff too, and of course, all my favorites.

Tom Petty-"Sorry if I mess up a bit on this song, but at least we play with real instruments and I'm really singing...accept no substitutes!"
Tom Petty rocks \m/\m/

I got to spend all ofmy years in school with him.. im so proud of myself..
:crackhead: GAH!
i just saw this band eyes adrift at joes pub. its curt from the meat puppets, kris from nirvana and bud from sublime [he wasn't there today at the show]. they played accoustic and it was pretty lame. the music wasn't bad but the singing kinda sucked [it was mostly curt singing, kris did two or three songs] and the lyrics were pretty lame. i only went because my friends a huge nirvana fan and wanted to see kris, so i figured i'd give it a shot.
