I don't give a flying fuck how much religious people hold their churches in high regards, for they by nature condemn those who do not agree with them. Those who preach love of fellow human beings are just as quick to judge those of different belief structure.

If I call my fridge a temple to beer, does it then become a sacred place?

Many things in life have continued because of tradition or "because it's always been that way. FUCK THAT!!! I say we question anything and everything.

Now, there is a certain level of respect that goes along with anything, but that should exist whether we are talking about a church or a bathroom.

If some stranger came into my house and tried to bang his chick in my living room or my hallway for that matter, I would certainly not be happy about it (unless I got some first). My point is, that this should not be treated as some uber-offensive act just because it happened in a church. No more so than a person should be punished further beause they steal money from a church rather than stealing from a drug dealer.

Get it?
I understand your point, but people will be offended by this based on where it took place. Just as you would be offended if someone banged their babe in your house others would be offended in certain places. People would be less offended if it was done in a park or a cab then they would if with it being done in a church, an elementry school or on a surgical table in an emergency room.

We must accept the fact, like it or not that in general, a place of worship is considered sacred. I'm a Christian but I would show the same respect to a mosque as I would a church. We do need to keep some places sacred from others. It is some common ground that most people of different beliefs have.

Question all you want, be an agent of change, but allow some things to go unchallenged. Religion and what is held sacred to a person. should be one of them.
Should it be held in any higher regard than any other place? I think not.

But then again, I don't think black people should have to drink from a seperate water fountain or eat at a restaurant other than Denny's.

This is not a racial issue, I understand, but it is an issue of one sect of people being treated with a different level of respect than another. Is the solution to desecrate(sp?) churches across the land? NO, the solution is to raise the level of respect for everything else.

Religion is not the last bastion of kindness in the world. In contrast, it is the longest running scam in the world.
The Catholic Anti-Defamation League is a very reactionary and conservative group incapable of finding humor in anything. They even went on a bender about some humorous holiday cards. The cards made fun of Hounika(sp?), Kwanza, Christmas, etc. They had a problem with the Christmas ones. They were the ONLY ones who had a problem with it. They've gone after TV shows, movies (Last Temptation of Christ), music, etc.
We will have to agree to disagree on this one Kid. I believe that a place of worship has to be held in a higher regard. I don't know that I can adequately defend why, it is just a personal moral viewpoint.

I agree that the respect of a person is just as important. But being one that has never respected anyone less because they are different than me, becomes a moot argument for me also. I cannot convince anyone that despises another human being based solely on the color of their skin to reconsider. You either get it or you don't and nobody is going to get you to change.
The question is, who defines what a place of worship is?

I could call anything a place of worship.

I think the point that K1d is trying to make is that by attaching religion to something somehow makes it above anything else.

When you really break it down its about politics and how much pressure you can apply. The Catholic Anti-Defamation League has the political power to force the issue and therefore can make it into a much larger problem with more dire consequences.

Religion, power, and politics all go hand and hand. Don't let anyone fool you that there is not a very real NON-seperation of church and state.
I just wanted the final word in this thread too.
William Donahue was on fox news last night. I haven't seen him so pissed off since he tried to close down the theater show with Jesus having two mommies.
