Spit on any women lately?
i think if everyone on the list was dead it would be much easier to judge it, because then they wouldnt be current. because i think they did this list as it applies today, and thinking thinking about if it will apply in 10, 20, or 30 years, and so on. in ten years, i dont think the cast of friends will be anything with the exception of jennifer aniston, because shes married to brad pitt.
seriously though, you all complain about how lame these lists are, but the shows they put on are actually good. over the 4th of july weekend i watched the "top 100 one hit wonders" and "top 100 shocking moments in rock n roll" and both were highly entertaining regardless of the order they put the choices in
Quote:by agreeing with this stupid list.

... then it wouldn't really be a list of pop icons...
half the people on it are aleady dead, and the living ones are the ones that most seem to disagree with
...of course, because with the living ones, there are people who go "omg they suck ass." That doesnt change the fact that you still know who they are and what they do...
so when shall we kill all these people?
soon
... when you can name one person on the list that you haven't heard of...
Britney spears ahead of Deniro...... Riiiiiiiiight.
I been lookin over the list a couple names pop out that shoulda been on the list.

one was Louis Armstrong.

But then I noticed something that blew me away, I figured this guy was in the top 50 even though he should be in the top 20. I looked over the whole list and correct me if I am mistaken but where the fuck is Marlon Brando? I mean many of these people can't even begin to be compared to true Icons. But fuckin Brando? This guy was a god to most actors today, from james dean and paul newman to pacino and deniro and most recently edward norton and dicaprio. I mean come on streetcar named desire, on the waterfront, godfather, apocalypse now the man was a fuckin God in his day.
Brando as the Godfather really should be on that list...
Just because you know who someone is doesn't make them a cultural icon. (I didn't read the whole list but) I'm sure Ghengis Khan isn't on the list because he has absolutely no impact on American culture. Oprah, on the other hand, has made being fat, black, female, and annoying popular. Brittney has got millions of fourteen-year-olds dressing like strippers. These are fairly significant effects on our culture.

That's my read of it, anyhow.
It seems to me that a lot of these people gained popularity in the past 10-15 years and didn't have a big impact on people other than people wanting a funky haircut(a La Aniston) or a stupid catch phrase. There has to be better choices than this.
if pop icon means mostly lame people who boring people admire, then sure, this is an accurate list.
