SPEED CHANNEL DEBUT POSTS IMPRESSIVE NUMBERS
March 13, 2002

Fastest Growing Sports Cable Network's Live Coverage from Monterrey, Mexico Tops ESPN's 2001 Season Average
SPEED Channel proved itself fast out of the box, delivering a .53 rating on its first live race broadcast of a CART FedEx Championship Series event--the Tecate Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix on Sunday, March 10. The .53 rating is 18 percent higher than ESPN's 12-race season average of .45 in 2001.

"We are ecstatic with the effort put forth by SPEED Channel this past weekend in Monterrey," said CART President and CEO Christopher R. Pook. "They established an aggressive and positive tone in their first broadcast of FedEx Championship Series qualifying on Friday and managed to carry that momentum all the way through the race on Sunday. The insightful commentary and aggressive camera angles are welcome additions to CART Champ Car television coverage. The beauty of this is the fact that we're just scratching the surface with SPEED Channel, but the way the shows were presented drew rave reviews from virtually all corners. That we exceeded our average rating from last year is the icing on the cake."

SPEED Channel's .53 rating translates into 264,000 households, with prime time programming adding a .11 (56,000 HH) and late-night programming adding a .05 (25,000) for a cumulative rating of .69 or 345,000 households.

"The numbers are no surprise to any of us at SPEED Channel and we feel they are simply the starting point," said network President Jim Liberatore. "The sole focus of SPEED Channel is racing and speed. Consequently, when you combine expert analysis and production with some of the world's most exciting racing, positive results are inevitable.

"This summer, much speculation and many questions were asked about the SPEED Channel TV deal, and its impact on CART," Liberatore added. "After one week, a sold-out crowd in Mexico and a larger audience watching the weekend CART programming than last year, it is safe to say we are off to a strong start in answering those questions. Our commitment to CART and to CART fans will be evident throughout the season."

CART qualifying on March 8-9 delivered a solid .20 (102,000 HH) and .28 (141,000 HH) in prime time, with SPEED's live race coverage topping ESPN2's NHL regular season game by nearly 40 percent (.38). SPEED Channel's ratings were up 179 percent over the same time period last year (.19).

SPEED Channel, the nation's fastest growing sports cable network, is the first and only 24-hour cable network devoted exclusively to motor sports and the human fascination for speed. In addition to extensive original NASCAR programming, SPEED Channel is home to much of the world's marquee racing events including CART, F1, Classic Cars, Le Mans, the American Le Mans Series, World Rally and car shows from around the globe. Currently seen in more than 50 million homes, SPEED Channel was acquired by Fox Cable Networks Group in July 2001.
Predators sign David Cool, add two others
ORLANDO, Fla. (March 16, 2002) -- The Orlando Predators announced on Friday that it has signed free agent kicker David Cool to a new one-year pact. Cool had an outstanding season with the Predators last year, scoring a career-high 131 points. He was a solid 20 of 38 on field goal attempts (52.6%) and hit 71 of 76 extra points.

Cool’s 427 career kicking points ranks second on the Predators all-time scoring list and his 49.6 career field goal percentage ranks second on the Arena Football League’s all-time list. Cool was one of the heroes of the ArenaBowl XIV, as his 19-yard field goal on the final play of the game broke a 38-38 tie with Nashville and gave the Predators their second AFL championship.

In addition to re-signing Cool, the Predators added rookie free agents wide receiver/kick returner Antonio Stanley and also re-signed offensive/defensive lineman Fred Ray . Stanley lettered three years at Bethune-Cookman College, where he accumulated 3,234 all-purpose yards and scored 15 touchdowns. He went to training camp with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars last year.

Ray, an Orlando native, earned an invitation to training camp after walking on at the team’s annual free agent tryout camp in 2000. He earned a roster spot and after spending one season as a seldom-used backup, earned the starting center’s job in 2001.

The Predators open training camp on March 25 and play their first pre-season game at Indiana on April 6.

March 13, 2002
AUBURN HILLS, MICH.- The Detroit Fury of the Arena Football League have announced today the signing of quarterback Rickey Foggie. Per AFL policy, terms of the deal remain undisclosed.

Foggie played all of last season with the Florida Bobcats of the AFL. In 14 games with the Bobcats, Foggie went 280-for-507 and 69 TDs, averaging 258.5 yards per game. Foggie threw for 3,619 yards and 15 INTs. Foggie is considered one of the most accurate and durable quarterbacks in the game.

"He is a talented athlete and a veteran quarterback with several years experience in the AFL," Head Coach Mouse Davis said. "We are excited to have him and believe that he has the ability to take us to the next level."

Foggie ranked among the league leaders last season in the following categories:

The former University of Minnesota Golden Gopher replaces the Fury's starting QB from last season, Scott Semptimphelter.

"This is a great opportunity for me to come into Detroit, as a veteran quarterback, with a team that had such a good season as an expansion franchise last year," said Foggie. "This organization has a great coaching staff, solid players and a great receiver in Robert Gordon. I believe that I can help this team out a lot."

Foggie ranks eighth all-time in the AFL in passes attempted with 2,234, fourth all-time in passes attempted in a season with 540 in 1999 and sixth all-time in passes completed in a career with 1,477. He also is fourth all-time in passes completed in a rookie season with 226 in 1996 and 11th all-time in most yards gained in a career with 15,461.

FAGGOT!!!!!!
Newcomers, vets battle to make Rattlers' roster

Weldon B. Johnson
The Arizona Republic
Apr. 4, 2002

The first week of training camp has been as competitive and intense as expected for the Arizona Rattlers.

If that continues through the remaining two weeks of preseason practice, paring the roster by the start of the season on April 20 could be difficult.

"That's a good thing," coach Danny White said. "It's a good problem to have. We are going to have some tough decisions to make. Sometimes injuries make those decisions for you, unfortunately. If we can get through training camp healthy, no question about it - we are going to have some tough decisions."

Both newcomers and veterans have been impressive in early practices.

Quarterback Sherdrick Bonner has come into camp leaner and showing no apparent effects of last season's knee injuries. Fullback/linebacker Bo Kelly has beefed up a bit, adding at least 10 pounds to last year's playing weight of 235.

Last year Ricky Parker was a defensive specialist, but will be a two-way player this season and has adjusted well to the additional responsibilities.

"Last year when I'd get interceptions, I'd kind of get excited about finally getting the ball in my hands and getting to run with it," Parker said. "This has been fun. It's added excitement to my game. I enjoy it. It's been a while (since he played offense)."

The move could relieve some congestion at the defensive specialist position, as the team has Cecil Doggette and Jerrick Bledsoe returning and picked up All-AFL performer Derek Stingley in the off- season.

There could be a logjam offensive specialist, too, as rookie Orshawonte Bryant has looked good in practice. In addition, Maurice Bryant returns at the position, and Chris Horne - who played receiver/linebacker last year - has been shifted to OS.

Calvin Schexnayder, last year's starter through most of the season, was released last fall.

Schexnayder visited practice Wednesday morning but is still recovering from knee surgery late last summer and has not signed with the Rattlers or any other team.

The offensive and defensive lines are areas the Rattlers are hoping to improve, and so far some of the new players have brought energy to camp.

Rookie Nakia Adderson and free-agent pickup John May have been working hard, White said.

At fullback Jeff McRea, a rookie from New Mexico, has also added intensity at a position the team is looking to shore up.

But the veterans in that group aren't about to be pushed aside.

Stacy Evans, a third-year pro, missed most of the first week of practice but is establishing himself.

"Seems like I'm the oldest one here, and everybody is trying to try me," Evans, who is known to be pretty intense himself, said with a wry smile. "They're all trying to try me. I got here a week late. I don't know what coach told them about me before I got here, but everybody is trying me.

"Last year we had a lot of veteran guys who knew the system. They knew what to do to get by. This year we have a lot of young guys or guys who haven't been here. Overall, I think that will make us better."

After taking today off, the team will return to the fields of the Tempe Diablo sports complex at 10 a.m. Friday.

The team's first preseason game will be Tuesday in Detroit.
