OK, for those of you that care about this upcoming project. I found a few things out.

They still don't have a band name yet. They had something they were going to use, but scrapped it.
Here's another article from Entertainment Weekly.

In the ever-changing world of Rage Against the Machine, things are finally a little less superunknown. The band - whose future seemed foggy after frontman Zack de la Rocha quit last year to go solo - have confirmed they're forming a new group with ex-Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell. The quartet has already written 21 songs and will soon enter the studio to record an album with producer Rick Rubin. "When these guys got together, it really sparked musically," says Cornell's manager, Jim Guerinot. "There was something both creatively and personally that was magic." Even more magical is the fact the the artists' labels, Epic and Interscope, will allow the project to go forward. "[Both labels] have met and have agreed to figure it out." says Guerinot. "They've assured us there won't be any holdup on their part." The album could be in stores as soon as this fall, although Cornell and Co. are still working on lyrics and arrangements and have yet to decide on a band moniker. How about Never Named?
Entertainment Weekly, June 1, 2001, Hear&Now column by Rob Brunner

I am PSYCHED for this band. People are worried that Cornell won't fit in with the band because he's not as political as them, but to tell you the truth. I wouldn't mind seeing them drop some of that. This is a NEW band. Maybe they will do some different things.

Here's a little something else...

And, as the deal suggests, Rage manager Mensch insists this will not be a one-time side project. "Until the boat founders on the shoals," he told the Times, "this is as permanent as anything." Yahoo Daily News
that's gonna kick ass!!!!!

i was a bit annoyed after soundgarden split up and cornell did some solo shit and then fell off the radar.

i'm definitely looking forward to that.
I'll just repost this...

Quote:No, I think the new project will be a totally new sound. Zakk wrote all the Rage lyrics, I think they'll be taking a less political stance...but it will probably be heavy as fuck....

I was really pissed when Soundgarden broke up. I had tickets to see them at Roseland and they broke up two weeks before the concert.

If Cornell is singing hard-core like he did on Badmotorfinger, then this will fucking rock. I never liked the political edge to Rage, so I really hope they drop it.

BADMOTORFINGER...one of the great albums of the 90's.

I think it should be interesting...Cornell solo was hohum...and RAGE needs a frontman. Seems to be the perfect match. Personally, I like Zack, so I'll be curious to what he does. Not many know that there was a very politically active rap group out back in the 90's, called the Disposable Heroes of HipHopracy, and I wonder if Zack is going to sound too much like they did on his own. Because where politically active rap was concerned, they were the trendsetters there, though never a crossover or hit.
I only heard two songs of Cornell's solo album. I liked them, but as mellow stuff to relax to. Looking forward to some ass-kicking rock.

Speaking of which, has Korn's new album come out yet? Last I heard, it kept getting delayed.
The frontman from Disposable Heros Of Hipocracy went on to start a band called Spearhead as a solo artist. I was diggin some of the DHOH shit but never got into Spearhead.

Cornell is a wailer, De La Rocha was a funky hip hopper with an edge. I will reserve judgement on this new Rage until I hear it but I was really disappointed when he left. I'm a big Soundgarden and Cornell fan though so I am intriqued.
it has yet to be determined how it's gonna sound but i, like keyser, am intrigued.

Great band... They did a remake of a Dead Kennedy's tune... had a lot of industrial sounding beats... like banging on steel drums and weird shit like that...

anyways... back to the Rage/Cornell issue... I'd like to suggest SoundMachine for a band moniker...

Ozzfest has announced that the new Cornell led Rage will be on the bill this year.
Keyser Soze Wrote:Ozzfest has announced that the new Cornell led Rage will be on the bill this year.
Oh, you mean THIS announcement?
Where there goes that idea :disappointed: :disappointed:

Jim Guerinot, the manager of ex-Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, has reportedly confirmed that the singer has left the new supergroup he formed with former Rage Against The Machine members Tim Commerford (bass), Brad Wilk (drums), and Tom Morello (guitar). The unnamed band had originally started work on their never-completed debut album early last year and were due to perform at this year's US Ozzfest dates. An official announcement is expected in the coming days.

The honeymoon is over.
This just fucking sucks.

BUT!!!!!!! (yes, theres always a but)

Reports said they DID go into the studio and record some tracks, so we can all look forward to those leaking out to Morpheus or something.
Quote:Blabbermouth.net reports:

Contrary to recent reports, the as-yet-untitled project featuring former Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell and members of Rage Against The Machine is not set for a late summer release on Epic Records -- or any other date -- according to Allstar, who cited a spokesperson for the label as the source of the information.

Meanwhile, a 13-song, 62-minute disc from the sessions was recently previewed by Blabbermouth.net, and we can happily report that the album will be very much worth the wait when it does eventually surface, with Cornell's performance in particular living up to the high standard that we have come to expect from the man.

Although tinges of RATM's signature groove-based rhythms are present in several spots, most of the tracks are moody, colorful slices of modern rock that display the kind of stunning musicianship and depth of emotion that most of the current crop of new-breed acts could only dream of conjuring up on an album release.

It should also be noted that, despite this being nothing more than a "rough mix" version of the final product, Cornell's vocals appear on all 13 cuts and sound as close to finished as one could expect them to be, thus putting an end to the recent rumors suggesting that Chris' inability to complete the vocal tracks was largely to blame for the continued delay in getting the album released.

YAY! :bouncer:
Nice...I can't wait to hear this one...
Too bad things didn't work out for them.

Oh, yeah...Eat shit.
