So why did they want Iraq? Oil? Please, is this president so fucking stupid that he can't come up with another way to make money other than to become the president of the United States, wait for September 11th to happen, and then face public scrutiny as he takes money from oil companies. Is that how stupid he is? That he can't make money any other way than to become president?
i tend to think that the president thought he would easily find WMDs from the intelligence he had. i think the president felt the need to oversell the war when all he needed to do was point to what we already knew, that Saddam was a ruthless dictator.
But based on what we hear from the 9/11 commission, why would we assume even that? We should assume that the president doesnt read any intelligence briefings.

we went into iraq because the idealogues believed a democratic iraq would cause a domino effectg in the middle east. they thought this despite information from the military, the cia, and the intelligence agencies of our allies telling them different.
i repeat that this war was carried out by idealogues who used their beliefs and ignored all of the facts that belied those beliefs.

Also, how come we don't have enough troops for Iraq? We oughta have the greatest military in the world, with enough fresh troops for such a place as small as Iraq. We shouldn't be forced to extend tours of duty; that oughta be a last resort, especially when we promised them that they wouldn't stay longer than 12 monthes.

i was a 24 devotee but when i found out that the daughter had gone from nanny to counter terrorist agent in one year the show was dead for me. plus too many stupid side stories. its a shame, the first 2 seasons rocked.

While I fully concur, I believe that something like four or five years supposedly elapsed between the second and third season.
Still though, only so much can be done with that premise.
that's really the only problem I have with this season - but if you take her out of the show, this is possibly the best of all three seasons.

Being fairly naive, I still think a truly Democratic Iraq could start the domino effect. Let's give it five or ten years and see what happens. If we're still running the country through a puppet government, then invest in a helmet and a mouthpiece, 'cause it's going to get ugly. On the other hand, if a system like Turkey's is able to come into power, then it could really start a wave of Democratic revolution.
that is the same deluded thinking that got us into this mess.
