duhh goat

- Hoon - 12-27-2006

actually it was the same show.
the jeffersons was a spin off from all in the family

- Goatweed - 12-27-2006

spin off is a spin off, not the same show - if it was the same, it would have been one fucking show!

- Hoon - 12-27-2006

BECAUSE it was a spin off automaticly implies that it WAS one show at one point.

- Gooch - 12-27-2006

Jefferson were in a famous episode on All in the Family where Archie acts like a rascist...however, it was only with those two characters. The Jefferson show was the two plus others.

- Hoon - 12-27-2006

I beg to differ. The Jeffersons were multiple 'All In The Family' shows. Sporadic, yes. But they weren't a one time deal. Also, their son Lionel did make appearnaces in the Bunker household. I know because my father watched every show and we had to, too.

spin off implies that it was related to a show, it is NOT the same show - if it was, it wouldnt be a spinoff dammit!

- Gooch - 12-27-2006

ahh, my mistake. I recall only seeing them once.

The second hugely successful spin off of the hugely successful All In The Family was The Jeffersons (the first being Maude). The Jeffersons started on All In The Family with the character of Lionel Jefferson. He was a black friend of liberal Michael Stivic and was used as a foil for Archie Bunker's biggot. He was friendly to Archie and at the exact same time mocked his biggotry without Archie even being aware of it.

Soon Lionel, his mom, his dad, and his uncle moved next door to Archie, much to Archie's chagrin.

Geroge Jefferson, the father, was close to being a black version of Archie Bunker. He was hard headed, loud mouthed and had his own racial prejudices. In the first episode where the entire Jefferson family was introduced, George would not come to eat dinner with the Bunkers due to his prejudices. As a matter of fact, George Jefferson was not even seen and was only talked about on the show until 1973.

George was a business man starting his own chain of dry cleaning store. In 1975, George and his family moved into their own spin off series. George's business had become successful enough that, in the words of their theme song, they moved on up to the East Side to a deluxe apartment in the sky.

From 'The Jeffersons' wikki:

Quote:Another star of The Jeffersons was Roxie Roker (mother of singer Lenny Kravitz), who played Helen Willis, opposite Franklin Cover (Tom Willis). The couple had a daughter, Jenny, (Berlinda Tolbert), who married Lionel in 1976. She later became pregnant, and had a daughter, Jessica (Ebonie Smith). The fact that Helen Willis was an African-American woman married to Tom, a white man, was a source of great irritation to George Jefferson. Like George, Louise, and Lionel Jefferson, the Willises were also originally introduced on All in the Family. The Willises first appeared in a 1974 episode (Season 4, Spisode 20) entitled "Lionel's Engagement". In this episode, however, Tom Willis was portrayed by Charles Aidman, Helen Willis was portrayed by Kim Hamilton (21 years Mr. Aidman's junior), and Jenny Willis was portrayed by Lynne Moody (only four years Ms. Hamilton's junior). By the time The Jeffersons pilot aired in January, 1975, all three characters had been recast with the actors best associated with the roles.

touche'!!!

- Goatweed - 12-27-2006

agreed, they were intro'ed on the show and then were given their own show, but it wasn't the SAME show.

I have a headache.

- Gooch - 12-27-2006

those niggas were segregated to another show, G!

- Galt - 12-27-2006

who cares if it were the same show, it's the same character.

If Kelsey Grammar died you wouldn't be arguing if it were the guy from Cheers or the guy from Frasier.

The actor is dead, stupid.

And Lionel was in numerous All in the Family Episodes before George & Weezey ever appeared

- funsnapsdyno - 12-27-2006

But it was the same show at one time..

Maude was great too. You had Meathead from All In The Family and then Maude - little Hoon must have been in liberal hell.

- Galt - 12-27-2006

No, it was never the same show.

The Jeffersons was never All in the Family and All in the Family was never the Jeffersons.

Spin-off does not mean it was the same show. It means there were actors that were on both shows, but it's impossible that they were the same shows. That's just stupid.

Interestingly, both Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy were spin-offs of Happy Days (who also had Joanie loves Chachi) 3 spinoffs from one show (that I can remember, there may have been more) has to be some sort of record. (Star Trek, CSI, and Law & Order are franchises, not spinoffs - that's a different thing altogether)

Frasier from Cheers > Frasier from Frasier

- funsnapsdyno - 12-27-2006

OKAY.. Point being, they were 2 different shows but Lionel's character was the same on All In The Family. There. I just explained it all in one sentence!
