I must admit, I always have found Doc and Arthur to be outside the norm of most engineers. They are almost normal people. :-D

- Doc - 09-12-2002

Aww shucks, you're gonna make me blush

Anyhow, I think having common sense is much more valuable than being book smart. Anyone can study their ass off and learn a great deal. Common sense has to come naturally. Someone with it can do well in school if they just try. A booksmart person cannot learn common sense. But I resent all of you for saying someone can't have both. :-(

Wha? I said fairly! :poke:

Of course you can, it's just pretty rare. :thumbs-up:

I think it depends. There are people that are intelligent and have common sense. This is also relative to what your definition of intelligence. Is intelligence just repeating facts learned from a teacher or a textbook or do you consider it to be deeper. Then again it isn't that hard to point out a moron.

- Rape Fantasizer - 09-12-2002

I think there is a difference between being intelligent and being book smart. Book smart people are those who can recite facts they read or heard about. Intelligence is a measure of your ability to learn things and be able to apply them when needed.

I think AM hit the nail on the head with that statement.

I have worked along side extremely book smart individuals and I must say that the majority of them have no common sense let alone emotional intelligence.

Quote:I often hear people say that so and so is relatively intelligent but lacks common sense.

 I get that a lot too

- Keyser Soze - 09-13-2002

intelligence is knowing everything while common sense is knowing how to use it.

- LZMF1 - 09-13-2002

what if.........say for example.....you had both?

- Ken'sPen - 09-13-2002

LZ, you are more of an idiot sevant,
without the sevant part.

- Doc - 09-13-2002

Or savant, if Rainman wants to spell it the right way

- LZMF1 - 09-13-2002

ken, check your PMs.

i sent you something :fuckoff:

- Ken'sPen - 09-13-2002

I saw LZ,
very eloquent.

- GonzoStyle - 09-13-2002

People with book smarts act like they know.

People with common sense/street smarts, act like they know nothing. cause they is smart enough to not have to prove it.

- Ken'sPen - 09-13-2002

what if.........say for example.........you had neither?

- AdolescentMasturbator - 09-13-2002

Let's not talk about lz please.

Then you'd have to take about aids and pretend you are tough, even though you would puss out in person..... you know, like me.
