Marvelous and Tommy combined to land 106 punches in round 1, 95 powershots. But to compare punch outputs between heavyweights and middleweights is pointless.

i was just talking about punches thrown and landed. not to compare the 2.

It was definetly one of the greatest rounds ever. I have never seen the fight in its entirety.

The Holyfield Vs. Bowe 10th round in their 1st fight was amazing. If not for the lack of action in the middle of the round it woulda been the greatest ever.

More recently, round 9 of the Gatti Vs. Ward fight, was astonishing.

Absolutely. Gonzo's right that in general Heavyweights produce the cream of the crop, but this was an extraordinary fight. And those were the days when you could actually watch a good fight on TV.

Bonds vs McGwire - aside from the personalities, at least Bonds is an all-around ballplayer; McGwire strictly one-dimensional.

Great records I remember:
definitely Hank Aaron hitting 715. You had the whole offseason for the buildup (I believe he finished the season before with 713) including all of the death threats. If you watch it now, notice the people who ran on the field; imagine what would happen today if they ran on the field like that.

As much as I disliked Pete rose, watching him get NL record hit streak & later the all time hit record was something special.

As for Ripken, it was a pumped up TV event. Did he really help his team by playing in all of those games? The fact that idiots voted it number 1 memorable moment just goes to show how stupid the public is.

Not a record, but I was at Yankee stadium when David Wells pitched his perfect game (Yeah Teen YANKEE STADIUM :-p ). I was with my kids and they had no clue how big a deal it was.
