Hey, since we have economic allies with Israel, Turkey, China, and France, countries with horrific human rights violations, can anyone explain to me why we do not have economic relations with Cuba? Southern Florida? No, I am not being Anti-Hispanic. I just want better cigars, a new island to vacation, and to learn how to dance.

And for the record, I am anti-Israel, but I am not anti-semetic. Rule of the stick: The Jewish people's claim to the land ended when they got pushed out just like the Indians have no claim to Boston. ("Football teaches wholesome American values: to steal another persons territority by force and to wear tight pants while doing it.")

Quote:The Jewish people's claim to the land ended when they got pushed out just like the Indians have no claim to Boston.

Actually that isn't a valid argument because they've gained much of the land thru force.

I agree with keyser, jews bah!!

- The Jays - 01-24-2003

.... there was no Palestinian people until Israel was created. Palestinans have no claim to land. Before Israel was recognized as a state, the land was British territory. The right of return was recognized, and the Jewish people were allowed to settle the state of Israel. The world recoginzes the sovereignty of Israel. They have a right to defend themselves. We support Israel just as we would support any ally. They require alot of support because they face hatred from the Arab world.

- Keyser Soze - 01-24-2003

We both know that is only one sides version of the story.

From a Palestinian's perspective...

Quote:Israel has repeatedly been ordered by the United Nations to withdraw and endless Security Council resolutions since 1976 have identified Israel's illegal occupation as the primary source of conflict.

Israel is an apartheid state, as acknowledged by both Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, two South African leaders well versed on the subject. When Afghanistan recently required Buddhists to wear a special patch, the response in the United States was extraordinary, and yet nothing is ever said about Israel's more explicit religious lines. Christians and Muslims are required to carry identity cards stating their religion, on which movement and privilege are predicated. License plates are also color-coded based on the driver's religion. Only Jews are afforded the full benefits of citizenship.

- criticslovesnatch - 01-24-2003

just a point on Turkey...

the U.S. has used Turkish bases and ports for the military since the days of the Cuban Missile crisis. Human rights records or not, they are pretty much the most moderate Muslim nation in that region, and one of the best friends for the U.S.

as for Israel, as I see it, There won't be peace in our lifetimes, and probably not in our children's lifetimes. there are too many people with blind hatred for each other on both sides of the issue for any peaceful solution to be practically put into place. and the US will not stop helping Israel anytime in the near future. It just won't happen.

I just wanted to post this, I'm not a huge Dennis Miller fan, but this take on the Israel/Palestine debate is really interesting.

Quote:A brief overview of the situation is always valuable, so as a service to all Americans who still don't get it, I now offer you the story of the Middle East in just a few paragraphs, which is all you really need. Don't thank me. I'm a giver.

Here we go: the Palestinians want their own country. There's just one thing about that: There are no Palestinians. It's a made up word.

Israel was called Palestine for two thousand years. Like "Wiccan," "Palestinian" sounds ancient but is really a modern invention.

Before the Israelis won the land in war, Gaza was owned by Egypt, and there were no "Palestinians" then, and the West Bank was owned by Jordan, and there were no "Palestinians" then. As soon as the Jews took over and started growing oranges as big as basketballs, what do you know, say hello to the "Palestinians," weeping for their deep bond with their lost "land" and "nation."

So for the sake of honesty, let's not use the word "Palestinian" any more to describe these delightful folks, who dance for joy at our deaths until someone points out they're being taped. Instead, let's call them what they are: "Other Arabs From The Same General Area Who Are In Deep Denial About Never Being Able To Accomplish Anything In Life And Would Rather Wrap Themselves In The Seductive Melodrama Of Eternal Struggle And Death."

I know that's a bit unwieldy to expect to see on CNN. How about this, then: "Adjacent Jew-Haters."

Okay, so the Adjacent Jew-Haters want their own country. Oops, just one more thing. No, they don't. They could've had their own country any time in the last thirty years, especially two years ago at Camp David. But if you have your own country, you have to have traffic lights and garbage trucks and Chambers of Commerce, and, worse, you actually have to figure out some way to make a living. That's no fun.

No, they want what all the other Jew-Haters in the region want: Israel. They also want a big pile of dead Jews, of course-that's where the real fun is-but mostly they want Israel. Why? For one thing, trying to destroy Israel-or "The Zionist Entity" as their textbooks call it-for the last fifty years has allowed the rulers of Arab countries to divert the attention of their own people away from the fact that they're the blue-ribbon most illiterate, poorest, and tribally backward on God's Earth, and if you've ever been around God's Earth, you know that's really saying something. It makes me roll my eyes every time one of our pundits waxes poetic about the great history and culture of the Muslim MidEast. Unless I'm missing something, the Arabs haven't given anything to the world since Algebra, and, by the way, thanks a Hell of a lot for that one.

Chew this around and spit it out: Five hundred million Arabs; five million Jews. Think of all the Arab countries as a football field, and Israel as a pack of matches sitting in the middle of it. And now these same folks swear that if Israel gives them half of that pack of matches, everyone will be pals. Really? Wow, what neat news.

Hey, but what about the string of wars to obliterate the tiny country and the constant din of rabid blood oaths to drive every Jew into the sea?

Oh, that? We were just kidding.

My friend Kevin Rooney made a gorgeous point the other day: Just reverse the numbers. Imagine five hundred million Jews and five million Arabs. I was stunned at the simple brilliance of it. Can anyone picture the Jews strapping belts of razor blades and dynamite to themselves? Of course not. Or marshalling every fiber and force at their disposal for generations to drive a tiny Arab state into the sea? Nonsense. Or dancing for joy at the murder of innocents? Impossible. Or spreading and believing horrible lies about the Arabs baking their bread with the blood of children? Disgusting. No, as you know, left to themselves in a world of peace, the worst Jews would ever do to people is debate them to death.

Mr. Bush, God bless him, is walking a tightrope. I understand that with vital operations coming up against Iraq and others, it's in our interest, as Americans, to try to stabilize our Arab allies as much as possible, and, after all, that can't be much harder than stabilizing a roomful of supermodels who've just had their drugs taken away. However, in any big-picture strategy, there's always a danger of losing moral weight. We've already lost some. After September 11 our president told us and the world he was going to root out all terrorists and the countries that supported them.

Beautiful. Then the Israelis, after months and months of having the equivalent of an Oklahoma City every week (and then every day) start to do the same thing we did, and we tell them to show restraint. If America were being attacked with an Oklahoma City every day, we would all very shortly be screaming for the administration to just be done with it and kill everything south of the Mediterranean and east of the Jordan. (Hey, wait a minute, that's actually not such a bad idea . . . uh, that is, what a horrible thought, yeah, horrible.)

- The Jays - 01-24-2003

Quote:We both know that is only one sides version of the story.

... Well, unfortunatly, the other side of the story is totallly made up. Palestinians never existed until Jews started showing up. The last time you could actually call someone a Palestinian and believe it to be true was when Israel was called Palestine. Today's so-called Palestinians are even more dangerous than their parents, because they have been raised to believe that their parents were kicked out of their homeland, and they are wiling to die for the wrongs done to their families. Fuck, even Yasser Arafat was born in Egypt... how does he have some deep rooted tie to the land Israel now lies upon?

What is truely crazy is that the UNITED NATIONS is willing to recognize the Palestinians. What's that saying? If you hate a group of people with enough passion, and kill them enough times, then the world would b willing to give you a country so that you won't kill anymore? It's like giving your lunch money to the school bully, cuz now you're broke, and he still hates you, and he'll be back tomorrow.

Interesting thread...

Quote:"Germany has been a problem and France has been a problem ... but you look at vast numbers of other countries in Europe, they're not with France and Germany on this. They're with the United States," and then he continued to say "You're thinking of Europe as Germany and France. I don't," he said. "I think that's old Europe. If you look at the entire NATO Europe today, the center of gravity is shifting to the east and there are a lot of new members."
Of course that's arrogance. If you're not with us, you're against us; even if you've been with us for all these years, now you're a "problem".

Quote:and what happens when we are no longer the biggest threat? will we just be another iraq in the eyes of the rest of the world?

that is not in the forseeable futre so who cares
China. Their military could surpass ours, easily, within our lifetime.

Quote:Go figure, France and Germany agreeing on something. Just 60 years ago, all of France was being dominated by Germany. And now look at them.
France was always a stupid nation. Seriously, I wouldn't mind if Spain and Holland and the Swiss just invaded France and took the country over. France could be the new Luxemberg. I don't care. Nothing good comes out of France.
And Germany is just probably still sore about the whole WWII issue and us kicking their asses all the way to the Berlin.

I hope this was a joke.

And disregarding Dennis Miller quotes...

Quote:... Well, unfortunatly, the other side of the story is totallly made up. ... Well, unfortunatly, the other side of the story is totallly made up.
Quote:Israel has repeatedly been ordered by the United Nations to withdraw and endless Security Council resolutions since 1976 have identified Israel's illegal occupation as the primary source of conflict.

I'd like to see what there is made up. I see a LOT of rhetoric following your (Jays') statement, but zero facts.

So why is it that:
Quote:In December 1987, which was right at the peak of all of the furor about international terrorism, the plague of the modern world, and so on and so forth, the UN General Assembly considered and passed a resolution condemning terrorism very strongly (international terrorism is the worst crime there is), and had all of the right wording in it. The resolution was
passed 153 to 2, which is actually pretty normal. The two (dissenting votes) were the usual ones, the United States and Israel.

One country only abstained, Honduras, for unknown reasons, so it was essentially unanimous except for the United States and Israel. Now, why would the United States and Israel reject, and that means veto since it's a U.S. vote against, a resolution denouncing terrorism? Well, the reason is because it contained one paragraph which said that nothing in this resolution prejudices the right of people to struggle against racist and colonialist regimes and foreign military occupation and to gain the support of others for their struggle for freedom under these conditions.

Well that, the U.S. won't accept of course. For example, that would have given the A.N.C. in South Africa the right to resist the South African regime, which is unacceptable. It would have given the Lebanese the right to resist Israeli military occupation and attacks which can't be accepted, and it would have extended to the occupied territories as well. So, therefore, the U.S. and Israel rejected it, and in fact, as usual, it is vetoed from history. It was never reported (in the U.S. media), it was never mentioned, it might as well not exist unless you read this in the literature. It's there, if you go to the UN's dusty records you can find it. But that's the right to resist, which was blocked by the United States in 1987 and is out of history.

But what about Cuba. Can we all agree that we should be able to vacation in Cuba?

- Ronin - 01-24-2003

Quote:I hope this was a joke.
Actually, it wasn't. France has been horrible to the Jews. So many hate crimes and they don't do anything about it. And they also reject the US with not letting us use their airspace?? Sounds like France has a stick up their ass. France has NOTHING! I say move away from France and start being better allies with the Netherlands! YEAH BABY!!
Germany has never fully liked us. Since WWI and WWII, they have always had a chip on their shoulder. Do you think they like Jews now since Hitler is gone? Hell NO! Plus, those people over there are descendants of SS soldiers and people that participated in the extermination of the Jews. It will take alot of years to wipe that thought out of their heads.

- OAS - 01-24-2003

France is horrible to everybody. They are a spineless, backstabbing notion. For them to even imagine that they are a force to be reckoned with is a fucking joke. Their economy has been in shambles longer than I can remember. Everytime there is a threat to their security, they come crawling to us for help. During the bombing of Libya, they told us we could not use their airspace and we basiclly told them to shove it up their ass and we used it anyways. I was on a joint NATO mission several years ago with some "elite" French commandos. What a bunch of pussy crybaby faggots. We finally just assigned them to communications monitoring and didn't even take them on the insertion we went on. We wanted to ensure that we could get out alive. Keeping them in another country was our best chance of doing that.

- LyricalGomez - 01-24-2003

Ronin, that might just be the most ignorant statement I have EVER read.

Quote:Plus, those people over there are descendants of SS soldiers and people that participated in the extermination of the Jews. It will take alot of years to wipe that thought out of their heads.

We are descendants of slave-owners, do we want to enslave all african americans? Of course not you bumblefuck, you seriously need to pull your head out of your ass.

They don't have that thought in their heads, it's the last thing on their mind, what Germany is thinking about is building up their country, bettering their standing in the world, not exterminating Jews. You have a mentality I've seen in alot of Americans, this paranoid everyone is out to kill us state of mind that will ultimatly lead to the downfall of this nation.

Quote:Germany has never fully liked us. Since WWI and WWII, they have always had a chip on their shoulder.

They do? Could you please prove it?

not that i am siding with Ronin, no way.
then explain the alarming rise of neo-naziism and the 400% increase in hate crimes in germany in the last 5 years.

I bet when all is said and done, the American government in power when the dust settles in Israel will offer the loser Casino's and reservations off the West Bank. Let me guess, the Native Americans had no right to this land either, right?

- Arpikarhu - 01-24-2003

Quote:Let me guess, the Native Americans had no right to this land either, right?
to the victor goes the spoils.
i love this crying liberal revisionist history crap. if the native americans have a claim to the land that we took from them then then italians should reclaim europe saying that they owned during the roman empire.....no wait....the greeks get first call to that.......no wait.....shouldnt the egyptians get all of the middle east? next some ancestor of the visigoths will claim holy rights to london.

- LyricalGomez - 01-24-2003

Quote:then explain the alarming rise of neo-naziism and the 400% increase in hate crimes in germany in the last 5 years.

That rise is alarming, but the problem with it is that not all the hate crimes are related to neo-naziism, Germany is being overrun by immigration, and sad as it may be alot of the immigrants spend most of their days walking around looking for a fight (this is not racist, it's simply a fact) so any incident they cause is classified as a hate-crime.

The rise of Neo-Naziism is a direct result of all this immigration, in some parts of Germany it has gotten so bad that people are moving great distances so their kids can walk to school without having to fear getting stabbed on the way.

But to say that all of Germany including the government is still harboring a grudge about WW1 and 2 is a little paranoid wouldn't you say?
