I DARE YOU TO CALL ME CHRIS ONE MORE TIME

- TheGMANN - 02-22-2005

WOW that was funny.

- The Sleeper - 02-22-2005

amazingly, that was the finest career moment for both jim rome and jim everett

- TheGMANN - 02-22-2005

I'll say this for Jim Rome.... after Everett said he wasn't gonna call him Chris again to his face, he had balls enough to do it.

- Sir O - 02-22-2005

Awesome! I remember watching that when it first aired, for some reason I liked Jim Rome back then. Truly a great moment in sports...

- drusilla - 02-22-2005

that was worth the wait for the dial up download.

jim rome looks like even more of a douche without his goatee.

- Galt - 02-22-2005

I'm so proud that I always hated Rome.

- drusilla - 02-22-2005

hasn't everyone?

- The Sleeper - 02-22-2005

sir o, what happened after the fight? did they cut right to commercial? did rome continue with the show?

- Sir O - 02-22-2005

I'm pretty sure they cut right to commercial. I don't remember what happened when they came back from the break, but this was like 12 years ago.

I do remember at the time there was a lot of speculation that this was all a publicity stunt, that Everett, Rome, and ESPN were all in on it. At the time he started with ESPN2, Rome wasnt' really known outside California where he had his radio show. This happened not too long after ESPN2's launch, before a lot of cable companies picked them up. They were still trying to find their identity, being marketed as the "younger, hipper" ESPN, with Sportsnight (Olbermann/Kolber) and Talk2 (Rome) their signature shows. If it was a publicity stunt, it worked, because it was a fairly big sports story for a few days.
