UFC - Gooch - 03-02-2006

It used to be that people came over for the boxing match. Whether it was Gatti vs Ward 3, Lennox vs. Tyson, Barrera vs. Naseem....we would have people over at our apartment all bent on watching the PPV on a Saturday night. Sometimes it was a wrestling PPV, when it was actually watchable, with Stone Cold, HHH, Mick Foley and The Rock.

These days, it's Ultimate Fighting. And we've had more people over than ever.

Not sure if you all have been watching, but UFC has gotten very hot. The Ultimate Fighter shows have been a huge hit for SPIKE, and UFC now runs several shows in prime slots for SPIKE. The PPVs themselves, have been excellent, and with the young fighters from the TUF show, and the regulars, there has been records set including the biggest one of all in April that sold out in 3 days. UFC is now running monthly PPVs, and kicked off the new year with Couture vs Chuck Liddell, in the rubber match which led to Couture's retirement.

Saturday, March 4th, is the next PPV, and we will have a full house for it. The excitement, and the conversations we have, outshine any boxing match or football game in recent memory. Nobody can even watch a wrestling show these days. But UFC, and their Japanese competition PRIDE, is what everyone seems to be talking about...and for good reason...the competition, stories, fighters, and production value is topnotch.

If you are looking for something to watch, I recommend checking it out.

fuck you, cocksucker.

- Gooch - 03-02-2006

If you don't mind driving to Freeport, LI, I'd invite you, sweetiepie.

- GonzoStyle - 03-02-2006

you never asked!!!!

- Mad - 03-02-2006

Thought you lived in Queens?

I've been a fan of UFC from fight one. Boxing is boring and I like the brutal reality of two people evenly match beating the shit out of each other.

How much are you charging to get in the door?

- Gooch - 03-02-2006

i live partly in Queens and partly in Freeport...i move fulltime to Freeport this summer. No charge right now. I hosted the last one, and will do this one..and then after, we'll charge depending on who is coming. its not a fullhouse in terms of it be standing room only. its a fullhouse b/c all the couches and chairs are actually filled. My girlfriend actually watches it..and other teachers who are at her school actually come over to watch with us. Otherwise, the regulars are just my brothers, a few friends from work, two friends from LI, and that about it. My version of fullhouse seems overblown in my post, now that i look at it. fullhouse for us is like 9 peeps....and last one was supposed to be 12 and only 6 showed up. Then again, we had only 4 regularly in Queens for boxing and wrestling PPVs. So i should probably reword my original post a bit. But the point is....UFC, at least in our opinion, is the best thing going.

And at the PPVs, I can guarentee that my girlfriend won't be overdosing pills. ((very inside joke))

if anyone is interested, PM me.

April's one will be the real biggie. Tito Ortiz takes on Forrest Griffin (TUF winner), and Arlovski (UFC's unotuchable HW champ) fights Sylvia...and if not this weekend, i'll see if anyone is interested in coming to the next one. We can put up other chairs or at least floor pillows, we usually order in pizza nearby, and we are easy to get to.

- Gooch - 03-02-2006

the point of this thread is to take a look at whats going on in the UFC, btw.

Tonight on Spike at 10pm is UFC Unleashed that plays some old fights (usually in the last two years). Tonight you get to see the Heavyweight champ destory a few guys...one in 15 seconds.

11pm is a UFC PPV promo piece.

its so you can get people to come over and charge them 20 bucks to pay for the bored planet server bills. we see through your ruse.

- Gooch - 03-02-2006

damn it!!!!!!

you have foiled me again, my nemesis!!

- HedCold - 03-02-2006

gonzo would still pay it if you promised mudslides

- Mad - 03-02-2006

Quote:Arlovski (UFC's unotuchable HW champ) fights Sylvia..

Arlovski is one bad motherfucker, hope Sylvia has been finely tuning his skills for this battle.

When does the next season of the UF start?

- Goatweed - 03-02-2006

I thought mudslides were found in Gonzo's underwear?

- Gooch - 03-02-2006

TUF starts about the time Tito will fight Griffin....April, me thinks. Tito and Ken Shamrock as coaches will be a fiasco this season...therefore, great TV

Mudslides i can do. My brother loves those.

Real men drink Pina Coladas, though

that even made me cringe

I was tired of my lady,
We've been together too long
Like a worn-out recording,
Of a favorite song
So while she lay there sleeping,
I read the paper in bed
And in the personals column,
There was this letter I read:

"If you like Piña Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain
If you're not into yoga,
If you have half-a-brain
If you like making love at midnight,
In the dunes of the cape
I'm the lady you've looked for,
Write to me, and escape"

I didn't think about my lady,
I know that sounds kind of mean
But me and my old lady,
Have fallen into the same old dull routine
So I wrote to the paper,
Took out a personal ad
And though I'm nobody's poet,
I thought it wasn't half-bad

"Yes, I like Piña Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain
I'm not much into health food,
I am into champagne
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon,
And cut through all this red tape
At a bar called O'Malley's,
Where we'll plan our escape"

So I waited with high hopes,
Then she walked in the place
I knew her smile in an instant,
I knew the curve of her face
It was my own lovely lady,
And she said, "Oh, it's you"
And we laughed for a moment,
And I said, "I never knew"

"That you liked Piña Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain
And the feel of the ocean,
And the taste of champagne
If you like making love at midnight,
In the dunes of the cape
You're the love that I've looked for,
Come with me, and escape"

"If you like Piña Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain
If you're not into yoga,
If you have half-a-brain
If you like making love at midnight,
In the dunes of the cape
I'm the lady you've looked for,
Write to me, and escape"

Shamrorck, who was once the best of the best, has lost his edge. That WWE and roids will fuck you up.

Was there ever a Forrest Griffin - Stephan Bonner rematch? They should make those two guys fight each other at least three times a year.

- Gooch - 03-02-2006

funny thing about Arlovski...as good as he is...there is someone in PRIDE that is considered a monster who could decimate him. If he could is in question, but most who have sene both fight say Fedor is the man.

No. Both have been winning individual matches. Griffin fights Tito Ortiz in April, which maybe the end of Griffin's run. Bonnar just beat someone pretty good at the last PPV.

A rematch is possible, but since both are winning and going thru the ranks, a rematch won't happen till one of them loses.

the last TUF finals, much like the first, were also terrific fights. None on the same level as Griffin-Bonnar...but they were really good.

did someone say mudslides!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
