avg cost of items/services - HedCold - 06-21-2006

since i'm new to this doing a lot of daily stuff on my own thing, i have no idea what certain things usually cost, like the good price for food items or cleaning stuff. luckily joobies is a jew about these things and probably dreams about being on the price is right, so i still don't have to know much about it
but some things i do
for example - the one time i took my clothes for dry cleaning myself on staten island i paid like $8.10 for 3 pairs of pants
in jersey city i took 4 pairs of pants to some place and had to pay $16
i asked a coworker how much her husbd pays in brooklyn, and she said anywhere from $7-$12 a pair.
so, what do you pay to get pants dry cleaned?
also, what are other things you get daily/weekly you feel like you get a good deal on or ripped off on?

get a fuckin iron. I buy wrinkle-free..i try not to buy and waste money on dry-cleaning unless absolutely necessary.

biggest cost will always be food...whether it be eating in or out.

- HedCold - 06-21-2006

i really hate ironing. tremendously.

as do i. i do wrinkle-free and hang them up out-of-the-dryer so I don't have to.

Ironing is woman's work. Crack that whip and make it so.

- HedCold - 06-21-2006

when buying future pants i will consider this

- Goatweed - 06-21-2006

the only time I iron is when I have to go to a formal function, so I'll iron up a shirt - if my suits get lightly wrinkled, I hang them in the bathroom when I take a hot shower - steam rules.

everything I wear is either wrinkle free or bullshit t-shirts - I also have the convenience of a washer/dryer so technically, I could use the dryer to get clothes looking snappy but I never need to.

Food is generally the biggest thing I spend $$ on, next to utilities but I have no control over that aside from gas and electric usage. Most times we shop at BJ's/Costco for staple stuff (chicken, steaks, cereal, etc) and I freeze everything so it lasts.

- Gooch - 06-21-2006

Same here, Goaty. No room for an extra freezer though...but I want one when we get a house.

Wrinkle-free is worth the extra few bucks...and even if it gets a little crumply from the dryer or it sat in the laundry basket when cleaned...just hang it up, gravity will usually do the rest.

- Goatweed - 06-21-2006

Mrs. Goat turned me onto the shower trick, I usually toss wrinkled stuff in the dryer with a wet towel but the shower is a lot easier.

I use Foodseal bags for everything, they really do work well for food preservation - as well we weed preservation Wink

- Gooch - 06-21-2006

I've cut down the weed to a blue-moon thing. Depends on who I'm with. Vices these days are cigars, beer/wine/sangria and whiskey/bourbon.

- Goatweed - 06-21-2006

weed & MILF porn are my only pleasures these days - and sleep, when I can get it.

you really are poorly dressed lazy geeks.

- Mad - 06-22-2006

You expected more?

- Paper Boy - 06-22-2006

i take my laundry to the local laundromat. they wash it and fold it for you for 60 cents a pound. 2 weeks worth of wash cost me $15 on monday but i really only wear t shirts and jeans.

- Keyser Soze - 06-22-2006

50 cents a pound in union city.

- Gooch - 06-22-2006

i had 50 cents a lb in Kew Gardens from some angry chink bitch. went fine til she fucked up my pants...took it to another place that was 75cents per, but was open much later...11pm as opposed to 6pm.

I have no reason to dress nice, I sit in a cubicle and they dont pay me enough to look snazzy in a windowless office - plus, I'm married so who am I tryin' to impress?

Weekends, I'm all about jeans and Polo/tee shirts.

- HedCold - 06-22-2006

its 75 cents a pound around me

- Charles Manson - 06-22-2006

Did you ever look at your receipt from the grocery store and see that they charged you 41 cents for the head of lettuce and then go by sal's vegetable stand and see that it's only 36 cents there for the fucking lettuce? Why don't they just charge the same for the fucking lettuce?
