it wouldn't do you any good now since you were able to master the complexity of photobucket
but for future reference -
in the profile section (click the link on the top - next to where it says how many messages you have in your pm box) you scroll all the way down. the part that says upload avatar from your machine, click the browse button, then find the file you want, and click ok. and thats it.
